Transfer Portal Tracker

Yeah, if you're the OSU quarterback and your name isn't common knowledge by the end of the year, they are probably thinking they can do better.
Maybe that is the current state of QB life at blueblood programs. But pretty sad as this was McCord's first season as starter. I fault coaching approach in having 2023 OSU offense being so pass game centric. But it even happens in NFL. Flacco comes off the street and throws 40+ passes his first game.

The biggest issue for McCord at OSU is he's not a dynamic runner. I feel like Ryan Day will target a running QB like Cameron Ward. I am surprised Kansas' Jalon Daniels hasn't entered the portal- he'd get a crazy check.

Yup- instead of declaring early you'll see a bunch of guys come back for another year, or 2 because they can make a good amount of money/develop still.

Even in basketball, too.
At the end of the day, it seems most guys are getting their degree and then (hopefully) getting a graduate degree on top of that. Pretty awesome to graduate debt free with a good sized nest egg in the bank if they go pro in something other than football or basketball.

The Athletic had a couple articles talking about the QB's and backed up what Rhule stated that an NFL quality QB is going to cost a school 1.5 to 2.0 million, and down from there for just an average QB to 500K. Look at the kid from Duke, he can go to ND make over a million, and play with better talent than staying at Duke for another year.
I don't blame the kids for looking out for themselves, but there really needs to be some rules about when a player can leave and the amount of times they can leave and then play the next season.

Who was beating out Gabriel for the starting job at OU? He would have been a Heisman frontrunner next year
I’m curious why he didn’t stay. I assume OU could afford him but maybe not

The level of QBs entering the portal kind of supports why Kohl staying this year is best for him. His clearest path to starting at a P4 right now (or in the near future) is at ISU

Jackson Arnold.

5 star recruit

Went for 5-9 against BYU for 33 yards, ran for 24 yards.
Was perfect in relief in the murdering of Arkansas State.

Was considered a top 13 recruit last year

HCS seems to think he's just following Lebby to Miss St. He followed Lebby from UCF to OU

Huh? I just don't understand how telling them "hey, I've spent two years sitting on the bench is better than I spent one year sitting on the bench".

That's like saying Florida State isn't good enough to be ahead of Alabama in the final rankings but somehow deciding they can be ahead of Georgia in the final rankings. The only way he improves his stock by staying is with in injury and that would suck.

There are going to be a number of kids next year in the portal. And the year after. And the year after. Many of them former highly rated recruits. That's NEVER gonna change.

Yes, there are a lot of former highly rated guys in the portal, you are 100% correct. But that's not changing. Someone who didn't play next year whose school recruited a new QB or signed one in the portal is going to hit the portal and there's going to just as many as this year.

If he wants to stay, that's awesome. But the idea that next year somehow is going to be better for him after another year of not playing when there will be another large number of guys going into the portal who played and or were at one time also highly rated - that's just not the reality.

Until the transfer portal is changed, there is going to be a large number of people in it every single year.

He won Elite 11 MVP, notably beating out Dante Moore, Avery Johnson, Malachi Nelson, and JJ Kohl.
