Preseason Hype Thread 23-24

I am out of the loop a little so I could be wrong, but isn’t Gilbert tough defensively too? With his size and athleticism, he and Lipsey could lock down a lot of opposing backcourts. I am excited for this team.

Gilbert is a two-way guard with positional size. His 3 point volume was low last year (2. 4 attempts per game) but he shot it efficiently at 38.4%. He's good at getting to the rack and drawing contact. His free throw rate of 38.8 would of easily been the best on our team last year.

Defensively he was 99% in steal rate last year per shot quality. I don't have a SQ subscription but I would imagine Tamin was at or close to that % as well.

Also a guy who can create his own shot.

Glad the hype train is internal and doesnt reach to the national media. Love when a good team comes in under the radar and then exceeds the worlds' expectations. Should be a super fun year! Man, what a gauntlet the Big 12 will be this year and going forward!
Same. Sometimes its nice to have high expectations coming in but I really love it when the national medias perception of us is "WTF, how do they keep being so good?" Every year.

Rothstiens blood from a stone tweet about TJ is a perfect description of what the program is and I still enjoy the identity, even though we got a much needed talent infusion

I'm excited to see the newcomers (along with the "oldcomers," :) )

Plus highly anticipating how much more offensive threat we have this season. I don't expect ISU to average 85 ppg or anything, but at least it shouldn't be as much of a hindrance and inconsistent.

I feel like everything we have heard about Gilbert this offseason has been his offensive prowess and how hes a big step up offensively, but looking at his stats last year it makes me wonder if there wont be that much of a drop off defensively

O/U 10 three's tonight

give me the over baby

So what's the starting 5 going to be? I would guess:

Lipsey
Gilbert
C. Jones
King
Ward

Not exactly a scorching hot take there, but exciting the season is finally here.

I agree. I think TJ liked bringing BRE off the bench last year and I think that continues this year. Crazy to think that Omaha is coming off the bench

Yeah very interested in what the rotations are going to be, particularly with Watson, Milan and Omaha.

Just so everyone knows that my expectations are reasonable, I'll post them here.

Undefeated. Score 95/game, give up 15/game. Shoot 100% from 3. Dominate the boards, but it doesn't always show because we dominate other teams backcourts via steals and forcing them into countless unforced errors as we devastate the college basketball world.

So nothing really big.

I don't know if the '92 Dream Team could do that against college players.

Well if they give up 20 points tonight burn the tickets, the seats, the new floor boards and the scorer's table.

Otherwise this is pretty much reasonable.
