In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

Right. We shouldn't pat her too hard on the back making moves that 99% of ADs would have made.

Was in eastern Iowa yesterday/today and I heard an updated announcement while shifting through stations on the drive. The DJ acted like it was 'where were you when this happened' type of stuff. It was another reminder why the fanbase has such a fishbowl view of the program.

Maybe if they're dumb. I'm sure we'll have a few down years transitioning to a new HC. Happened after Fry left too. She's going to be really good.

I agree she will be really good, and you don’t want to lose her.

But your fan base will go absolutely ape s**t if KF walks and Iowa sucks for a few years. You don’t get a long leash these days like KF got when he started.

Are we seriously going back to the whole "CMC doesn't care about the Iowa game" thing?

Lol.

Personally I don't believe it but that was a go-to for a solid decade of early Ferentz era if they lost to ISU.

His teams are just very 'bleh' for the first month no matter who it is and that tends to include the B12 opener.

Iowa fans will not be saying that if the new head coach next year only wins 2 or 3 games the first few years. Iowa fans will be pissed that they let a Hall of Fame coach leave that just took them to the B1G Championship and a 10-2 season.

Iowa fans will be calling for Beth’s head if that happens. Look how much Iowa fans think they should have never let Tom Davis go…. and KF was 10x better than Davis.
I don’t know. Tom Davis felt like an entitlement play. It’s wild that a coach with a solid history has this as his last five seasons ends in getting fired.

It's not like KF has 10+ years of coaching in front of him and if he walks we'll be missing out on him. A few down years are to be expected when transitioning a new HC in, especially at a place like Iowa where we've had exactly 2 head coaches since the Carter Administration.

Hate to say this but this is smart of her to get this out early IMO to give Hawk fans hope for he future. God, I miss Gary Barta already. He would have found a way to screw this up that probably would have involved keeping Brian and/or a lawsuit.

Of coarse Kirk will hire next OC and given the historical trend line of : O'Keefe >Greg Davis> Brian, the next one will probably be pedestrian at best.
Hope he just hires a different son.....

Anyone who watches him on sidelines knows he’s cares greatly about that game. If he doesn’t put stock in it, he’s a fool.
I think it really stems from his first couple good seasons where ISU was great in October but lacked the depth to play well as the season wore on and injuries started taking a toll. Really since 2019 they seem to spend the first 3/4 games playing a ton of guys, and frankly ISU hasn’t been very good early in the season. Hopefully they can figure out a way to build depth and evaluate guys with struggling so much, but I understand the approach.

It is great that now a few injuries don’t result in disaster like it used to. But so far the trade off has been slow starts to the season.

Sure that's fair. And that's kind of what I'm saying is that he doesn't view it as any more important than anything else.

But we know he values growth and the process over everything else, and he in no way considers it a failure of any particulae significance as long as growth is achieved and significant development is achieved later on.

Would he prefer to go undefeated? Sure, who wouldn't...

If Campbell has his same record against iowa and has like a 25-30 percent winning percentage in conference this is obviously a different conversation.

Likewise going 7-1 against iowa with a bunch of really bad finishes wouldn't change a whole lot for him internally. We can debate if that would be enough to keep the fans satisfied (which iowa fans would love it if we thought the answer was yes)

The point really was iowa is not special and they get exposed all the time when they step out of their safe little big ten west play pen and it's sad to see it go away. Which is why they respond insecurely the way they do. Don't take the bait. It doesn't bother me, I enjoy how fragile they are.
I agree, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when they have to play a more competitive schedule. Winning 4 or 5 games a year will doom their program.

If you're Kirk, what do you do, assuming you plan to return? You won't be able to hire anyone outside the program, no one inside the program can fix the issues. She's trying to force his hand and push him into retirement. But KF doesn't like it when people tell him what to do, either. This is going to be fun from a schadenfreude standpoint.

And 1 outright conference title...

What are the numbers? How much is the Moon family head coach getting paid if he finishes his contract? What's his buyout if let go?
