In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

It’s a really bad look when the AD makes and announces a key coordinator position change rather than the HC.
Yes it is. Question for the group - Do you all think this cements that this is Kirk's last year?

I would think that it is. He has to be done with the Univ after they are forcing his oldest son out the door. I feel some very bad karma is about to hit that football progrum.

I mean, quitting won't change that Brian is gone.

But it is probably a sign the end is relatively near. He may want to go for that big 10 wins record though.

Sorry, I have to disagree.

Of course Kirk could fire Brian if he wanted to. Of course he could announce it if he wanted to. Kirk could have replaced brian with any new OC at any time if he wanted to.

This points to him not wanting this decision and it being made for him, and he's not on board with it. Otherwise Kirk would have been making the announcement.
I think it's been made clear that Kirk wasn't on board with the decision, which makes me an even bigger fan of BG. KF's interested in doing what's best for his son and family, what's best for Iowa football has come in 2nd to that for many years now. She's put him on notice that Iowa football isn't the Ferentz Family Business any more.

Let’s hope this ushers in a long dark age of losing seasons and dwindling support for that program.

The funny thing is, if you assume Brian isn't getting the head job, this is probably best for Brian too over the long run if he wants to keep coaching. Someone will pick him up as a position coach and maybe he can work his way back up with additional perspective not just from within the Iowa program

His future has to be NFL OL or TE coach if he wants to keep coaching which isn't a terrible way to make a living.

He may also just go into pharma sales or something. Hard to know.

I think so but I'd be surprised if we get any announcement until the seasons over.

Other part of this decision is it makes me think the next guy will not be someone not on the staff now. I had always assumed it would be someone from within because it would be easy and status quo for Barta

I miss Barta. A competent AD is an unwelcome change.

I like how she didn’t let him gracefully slide into some NFL job daddy gets him and let’s the world know she booted him.

Hope she keeps the son in law.

A Hawkeye in the know told me that when the 4 Pac 12 teams joined the B10 that KF was done. He does not want to go out West for games and he knows that without the doormats of the B10 West on the schedule every year that his job just got tougher. This is a sad day for Cyclone fans....I was hoping that KF had enough pull that he would slide Brian into the HC job. When Barta left the writing was on the wall.

A beautiful scenario will be if Iowa goes completely in the tank while allowing Brian to finish out the year. The new Wave at Kinnick would be directed at the field.
