F*CK IOWA

Also who is Iowa's third string QB? Didn't they go out and get a random juco like we did?

He wasn't calling for a fair catch, he was directing his teammates to clear out on a short punt that he didn't feel he could catch on the fly, which might bounce and hit one of them (or even hit them before hitting the ground).

They made the correct call, but let's not pretend that he was actually calling for a fair catch or trying to trick anyone. He was just trying to avoid a situation like the one in the PSU game a few weeks ago and saw an opportunity to make a play.
Put up more than 2 yards in a half. End of story.

That's a great question. He must be a walkon from Pisgah High School or something like that.

FWIW. There was a lot of media chatter last night that BF needs fired immediately. Not after the season.

The new AD could really win over a lot of fan support by doing just that and also jumpstart the head coaching search by basically putting KF on notice.

There is a non zero percent chance this happens soon.
They don’t have an AD now. Just an interim.

No, it's not called very often, but that is because players who wave their arms and signal an invalid fair catch don't end up scoring touchdowns very often.

The refs made the correct call and it wasn't the least bit shady.
Then why did the ref not start blowing his whistle and calling the play dead? Yes, according to the rules they got the call right, no one is saying they got it wrong, but they went to the replay to see, we were told, if he had stepped out of bound. Not to see if he had called for a free catch, only if he had stepped out of bounds.
I can see why their crappy fan base would be upset is all I am saying, I loved it, but can also see where they think they were screwed over.
Bottom line they lost, their offense sucks and they play no one, this call did everyone a favor.

Because they missed it? You could say the exact same thing about anything that is reviewed and overturned. They messed up, and got it right after review.

Also on some calls where you might want to have it reviewed, it is better to let the play play out because if you stop the play you can't fix the error afterwards and you just screwed them out of a potential return. Same reason they will generally lean towards letting a questionable fumble play play out and let review take a look at it.

Pretty sure the quote from the referee said they saw it on the field and wanted to review it to be sure

I think it was one of those quizzes that teams have during timeouts and the genius running it thought a good quiz question would be where was Hitler born.

Hot damn. Might be a good quiz question sitting around with friends and drinking or something but, man, this is freakin' tone deaf.

I do wonder how many Americans would know the answer.

No - hok fans are upset because the play that they would have gotten to gloat over for the next 5 decades was "unfairly" taken away from them by the refs. Never mind the fact that 1. the refs made the right call, and 2. it never should have come down to trying to deceive the punt coverage with an illegal fair catch in the first place - they only put up 10 points on a bad Minnesota team.
