49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

I feel like of all the QB's we are talking about now, Brock is doing a fantastic job of avoiding the TO. Does he even have an INT this year?

We do need to credit Campbell and ISU for the development of Brock though. Sure they (ISU staff) limited Brock at times, no doubt. It was a juggling act to play him conservatively and try to keep him healthy, jada, jada, vs. let him maybe run more by design, etc.

Also, we need to credit Brock for continuing to work on his craft. He is better now than he was 2 years ago, at ISU. And that was pretty good then. His arm is stronger now. He went to FL and worked with a QB coach there who has really helped with his throwing motion and velocity.
I do not credit the staff for Purdy’s development at Iowa State. I think it’s one of their bigger failures to be quite honest. He regressed in a number of areas at different points of his career, and plenty of NFL folks that focus on the data/metrics/analytics have essentially noted that the longer he played in college, the less they liked him as a pro prospect. Then in literally ONE summer with the 9’ers (and a private throwing coach), he instantly made noise on an NFL roster. They couldn’t cut him! He was suddenly THAT good.

The real reason he was the 262nd pic? Because there was no evidence to justify him being drafted earlier. Hundreds of scouts and high level football minds didn’t “miss” on Purdy in the draft process. NO ONE on draft night predicted (or could have foreseen) his RAPID offseason development, i.e. his mechanics, his mental focus on scheme, route concepts, anticipation, etc. That credit goes to Purdy and his commitment to push himself hard and accept the criticism/training/changes required, and kudos to the 9’ers organization for pushing all the right buttons from there on.

As good as he was at Iowa State, he could have been even more impactful.

Tua is probably the MVP up to this point. His numbers are insane.
He was pretty meh against New England and Buffalo. Has more yards and 2 more passing touchdowns than Purdy, but if you count rushing TD they're tied, and Tua has 5 int to 0 for Purdy. Miami is probably the one team that has as many if not more weapons on offense than the niners. Not an easy decision if they were voting today.

I haven't read this entire thread, so apologize if it's already been mentioned.... but did I hear correctly that Brock Purdy has had the best 10 game stretch of any starting QB EVER in the NFL?

Depends on what you are comparing against. Wins and completion % are both highs compared to other stars. But yards and TDs are lower. Here is a post comparing a few.

I don't watch much of the McAfee show. Does AJ always just sit their awkwardly for 90% of the show? Why do they always have him on screen when Pat never shuts up? Seems like every clip I see is like that.

AJ is beyond awful on this show. I haven't seen all that many episodes, but I think in every single one that I've seen AJ is sitting there smoking and gnawing on a huge stogie... just awful to watch.

What was wrong with your special teams while he was there?

LOL what the f*ck wasn't, FG kickers that couldn't hit long or short, one yr playing Iowa the punt return unit let the ball bounce off their helmets, the 2nd guy ran into the 1st and Iowa recovered on a short field and wins.
For all of Campbell's talk of winning the margins his special teams have been sad.
Most yrs our damn kicker couldn't even kick it into the end zone.
