49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

I'm not sure it mattered. The NFC is pretty clearly Philly/SF then everyone else. The Cowboys beat up on a terrible Giants team, a Rodgers-less Jets team that saw Breece get four carries, lost to the Cardinals, and then beat up on a terrible Patriots team. Cowboys will still probably grab a wildcard spot cause after the top of the NFC it's pretty underwhelming, but they looked pretty awful last night
It's one game in the first part of the season. Injuries, improvements will all occur. SF won last night, not a doubt they were better.

I think SF defense had more to do with it than Dallas D. Dallas lost the time of possession pretty terribly.

Also Philly hasn't looked invincible.

There are a lot more problems than him but you're never going to win any game of significance with Dak as your QB.

Are they though….
I don't know. Losing Diggs hurts that defense a lot. They kicked the crap out of some of the worst offenses in the league but have lost decisively to the 2 teams they've played with a pulse.

They looked soft last night. Micah wanted no part of that game after they roughed him up a little bit. Dak getting salty with the media last week is fine as long as he backs it up, but he played like crap. Looks like it's in his head now. McCarthy looked totally outmatched coaching wise. Lot of signs they are missing intangibles that great teams need IMO, and I say this as someone who likes and generally roots for the Cowboys.

Was Campbell and the rest of the offensive staff as good as Kyle Shanahan? Of course not.

I mean this sincerely though we have to stop with this. He had a tremendous career and was 1st team all Big 12 multiple times.

My response was more that we keep blaming the OC rather than blaming Campbell for the offense. The OC is running the offense within the parameters that Campbell sets.

Play more like play more snaps or play more like let him run around more?

He was a starter for 3 1/2 years but was handcuffed to the pocket too much. Perhaps it paid off but imo it got him thinking too much instead of just making the needed play which he seems to be much better at now.

Let Brock be Brock I suppose rather than handcuffing him. He doesn't run around much with the 49ers. That's a misconception. He just processes really quickly, makes great decisions, gets the ball out quick and makes accurate passes. If you mean handcuffed by keeping him in the pocket perhaps that's how he developed his elite processing skills. Which is why he is so great. So maybe that development process is exactly what helped him.

Let’s not forget the line play. Good and consistent line play and having other stars around to take the pressure off surely helps.

If you take Brock, put him on Dallas, and take Prescott and put him on the Niners, that would’ve been a hell of a game. Maybe Dallas could’ve won.

Maybe, but I kinda doubt it. Listening to one of the sports mutts talk this morning, they were criticizing McCarthy because he still runs basically the same offense that he ran in Green Bay when he had a HoF QB in Farve who could go off script and make winning plays. Something us ISU fans can feel, the perception is that McCarthy's offense is stale and too easy to defend unless you have superior athletes.

Early in here, he had to use his legs more to make plays. I think what some of us are calling "haven't to the pocket" by the OC was partially designed to keep him healthy. I know one year he was dinged up for much of the season.

Dak really isn't mobile anymore due to injuries. This forces him to be a drop-back passer which he isn't quite as polished at.

That makes sense and maybe that's what developed him into what we see today.

He didn't in his podcast and never really has: https://spotify.link/WPCMnyegLDb

At best it's a qualified compliment. Great for the contract. Great within Shannys system. And even this is only recent. He said just a couple weeks ago how he didn't believe in "unathletic" QBs like Purdy. He drools over Hurts in comparison. He's had to adjust because Purdy hasn't screwed up yet and plays on a great team.

When Purdy has his first bad game (short of winning the Superbowl), he'll throw him under the bus, I'm pretty sure.
It’s crazy to say that Purdy is unathletic. He’s shifty and has elite footwork. Plus he’s got good acceleration. If Cowherd or other pundits say Purdy lacks athleticism then they are just parroting some false narrative. He’s shown great athleticism since his first start at OSU where he just ran and passed all over them.

He has short area quickness and change of direction. He's shifty quick in like a 10 - 15 yard box area. Giving you time to extend plays and scramble for 1st down. He won't run 40, 50, 70 yards down the field like Fields or Jackson but that's OK. Honestly do these idiots watch the games?

Their problem is they just aren't the franchise they think they are. They need real football people in charge, and if it was the job that people think it is why can't they hire a good coach? They haven't been anything since the salary cap went into effect. Take away the star on their helmet and they are just another team. Baltimore might be the best run franchise in the NFL.

He no more unathletic than 80% of the other NFL QB's.
