49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

NFL Fans React To Brock Purdy Still Having A Roommate - The Spun: What's Trending In The Sports World Today

I know some people are joking about a guy making $870k needing a roommate to help pay rent but he's not crazy for doing so. Guessing he probably has a place fairly close to the stadium too which factors into how much rent they are paying. California cost of living is nuts, had a friend recently move out of San Fransisco because of how expensive it was. His solution to paying rent there was actually buying rental properties back in Iowa and using the revenue from that to help pay the rent he split with roommates. Back in college I dated a girl from California who thought rent here was crazy cheap as you couldn't get a hole in the wall apartment in CA for what you would pay for a nice sized house payment here. Also met a couple while on my honeymoon in 2009 that were from California and that was the time when the housing market had just crashed and they told us they both owned townhomes but if they were to try and sell one they would actually owe the bank quite a bit of money because they wouldn't even be able to sell it for anywhere close to what they still owed on the mortgage.

Obviously if he keeps playing well his big payday will be coming soon and it feels like the 49ers are trying to help him get some supplemental endorsement deals in the meantime too.

People dont understand bay area pricing, dudes with half million tech jobs have roomates. :) Especially if you are enjoying a beautiful tech campus and come home to sleep , no need to waste money on rent in your 20s. Invest that in a mutual fund.

I will continue to say that JLH "was" great 20 years ago. She hasn't aged real well. Plus there is a point where things get too big.

I'd also argue that the age-old argument of if JLH or Sarah Michelle Gellar was hotter was no contest in the day - SMG.

Damn, Yao Ming should have been a QB. Probably would have won 12 Super Bowls with that kind of stellar logic.
He tried to explain that it had to do with the angle of his release point or something like that. I wasn't really paying attention at that point to what he was saying because I was just laughing inside. He made the statement back in 2021 (while we were watching the UNLV game).

A lot of NFL rookies have roomies. They are coming out of college, where they likely had roommates, and having them is a great way to save money.

Not sure I want Skip Bayless jumping on the Brock Purdy bandwagon
If Lamar Jackson has put up same stats as Purdy through first 4 games, Keyshawn Johnson would be screaming MVP. No one is saying Purdy is MVP at the end of season. Through the first 4 games, he has played better than any QBs in the league. Best QB usually wins MVP so it is not outrageous to say Purdy is the leading MVP candidate through the first 4 games.

It still makes me laugh that a relative (who played football at Iowa back in the 70's) tried to say that Spencer Petras was a better QB than Purdy because Petras was taller.

That's exactly how people evaluate him. Because he doesn't fit the height and weight of a combine specimen. They look for 6'4" 230 lbs. But that's not how you play football. Processing is the most important at QB. From the shoulders up is the most important. Drew Brees was the same size and had great reads, excellent decisions, perfect timing and threw an accurate ball. Like Brock Purdy. You can play at his size. The results matter. Not height and weight.

If size is everything, then Bryce Young and Kyler Murray should not have been drafted as #1 overall picks.

His height as a rule of thumb is generally considered a negative for 'traditional NFL' but there's obviously exceptions.

Hok logic coming through while one is one of the bigger stories in the NFL for a second straight year isn't shocking.

Height is one metric of many, just like length and girth are for other activities. It isn't meaningful strictly on it's own.
