49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

I’m not sure how many on here know the story but in the 2022 off season, Kyle shanahan told his staff that he wanted to draft a young qb to groom in the background. So steve slowik and Brian Griese (49ers QB coach) started doing their homework on the QBs in the draft. They just fell in love with Brock and said they wanted him over everyone else. They put a fourth round grade on him (in hindsight is super low. Should of been a first).

Only reason they didn’t draft him sooner was because of team needs but as the draft was coming to an end, Griese and slowik was banging the table for Brock. They decided to use their last pick on him so they wouldn’t lose out on him in UDFA. Might be their best pick ever. Lol

Earlier before the draft, the 49ers signed a backup with guaranteed $2M.
During camp, he was getting like 3 reps a day, barely anything. But he was impressing the coaches with how he executed them. Then he shined during pre season. So the team decided to cut the guy they signed for a guaranteed $2M and ate it, just to keep Brock.

Also, when CMC was first traded to the 49ers - Brock is the one he worked with in their free time to learn the system. Mccaffery was super impressed with Brock at that time.

The vets like Trent Williams and Fred Warner were telling the coaches during Brock’s rookie training camp how Brock was a stud and keep an eye on him.

It’s just such an amazing story and he seems like it couldn’t have happened to better guy. Like I said, as a fan - I couldn’t be more grateful for Brock. Very excited about the future
My son (a kid) and I had the opportunity to spend time with him a couple times during his time at Iowa State. I can’t describe how absolutely genuine and what an awesome dude he is. He did something for my son after he got drafted and move to San Fran that he most definitely could have not done in the middle of trying to make it in the league. Sure the league can change you but I have no reason to believe it has. He’s simply a top tier human being.

It’s so cool hearing how some of you now root for the 49ers and how passionate you are about Iowa state. Brock said that the fans passion for the program was a huge reason he chose Iowa state - you can see that just in this forum.

He has that cool story how he visited Alabama because they offered a scholarship, but Saban clearly didn’t even look into him before criticizing him. Then he went to Iowa state on a visit and was blown away at the passion of the fan base.

I’ve actually read up on the programs history and have followed them since he left. Haha I don’t have a “team” in CFB but I catch myself
Hoping you guys win each week. The program did really well while he was there and has had a handful of really talented guys get drafted. I hope Campbell can get another quality QB soon. You guys deserve it.

Just gonna leave this here. I know we've only played 1/4 of the season, but he is getting better and may very well go up. Some great company and hell of a start to a career.

Can you hope for a good Oline and some Dabo-level receivers?

Unfortunately Brock probably won't get National respect until he makes it to a Superbowl. And if he doesn't win it, subdued respect.
He's Kurt Warner all over again. He won a Super Bowl early and got respect.... but there was always this cloud hanging over him that it was still a fluke. Like he didn't deserve to have this. He wasn't from the system. Sucks.

Hey everyone! Thanks for approving me to comment on your forum. I’m a huge 49ers fan and someone shared this thread on the forum I go on.

It’s cool to see how much love the Iowa State fan base has for Brock Purdy. He’s awesome and beloved by the 49er fan base, as well.

I didn’t pay much attention to him when we originally drafted him but he started make noise in camp. When I saw him go in during the dolphins game - you could just tell that there was something special about him. The command he had, his football IQ, confidence etc.. you just don’t see that in any young player usually. Sometimes I forget he’s barely played 10 games cause he looks so much like a veteran.

I’ve studied some of his college film and it’s clear in hindsight how his game was so well prepared for the pros. I really think the 49ers stumbled into a special player and couldn’t be more excited about Brock. My girlfriend bought me his jersey back in June - feels like the first time we’ve had a true franchise guy since Steve young. I couldn’t be more thrilled.
What took you so long gettin' here? Haha!

Welcome!

I think most of us thought that Brock could be a good backup QB in the NFL and thought he should have been drafted a bit higher. But most of us had no idea how great his start in the NFL was going to be.

It's been really fun becoming a 49ers fan. Your team is fun to watch and honestly if they traded Brock, I'd probably still sort of follow them. But right now---a lot of us are following the 49ers closer than whatever team we usually support. Last year when he started his run, they'd put on the games on the big screen during timeouts in our basketball games. I have relatives that have never bought an NFL shirt that are buying 49ers shirts. (And honestly he wasn't even my favorite player on his Iowa State teams.)

And remember when the 49er's twitter account is tweeting out "Brocktober"....we came up with that phrase ;)

Brock has set Tons of 49ers franchise and/or NFL records. He has the longest streak in nfl history to start a career for a qb not only winning, but throwin 2+ touchdowns and a 95 or higher qb rating.

I believe he has 2, possibly 3, jerseys/cleats/balls in the hall of fame already for setting records.

He’s special. Couldn’t be more grateful for us to have him. He has that unique personality where he’s humble and genuine, but extremely competitive. He rides that fine line of being aggressive yet responsible with the ball. He knows he’s surrounded by a lot of talent and doesn’t need to try and do more than neccessary - he can just ease into it all and be himself. He has ice in his veins.

He’s on pace to break a lot of single season 49ers passing records, which is impressive since we’ve had Joe montana and Steve young. I’m really hoping he can take us all the way this year. I really think he would have if he didn’t get injured last year.
Tankle104..... you are a fabulous addition to this site!
Keep the info coming!
Many of us are now 49er fans due to Brock. They are a fun team to watch, and Brock is becoming such a remarkable national story. Just remember, we had him first! :D

If the 49ers were to make it to the Super Bowl, and were to let's say, be playing against my Chiefs (again), I honestly have to say I would be happy with the outcome regardless of who won. I could not say this the first time in 2020, pre Brock, and the Chiefs were able to come back and get that one.

I would be thrilled to see another Chiefs / 49ers SB!

A lot of common fans give a lot of the credit to the team and head coach, but Brock deserves a lot of credit too. Brock is in a great situation for any young qb, no doubt, but he’s also elevated the team. With jimmy G at the helm, niners averaged about 25 PPG. With Brock, that’s been elevated to 33+ PPG - the highest in the NFL. He also has the highest QB rating in the nfl since he became the starter last season (and highest this year right now).

Kyle shanahan (49ers HC) has a history of not trusting his QBs with too much freedom in the offense. He’s also only won with Brock & Jimmy G. Recently, he came out and said that he trusts Brock more than any qb he’s had since being the HC.. and it shows clearly in his play calling.

Brocks accuracy, decisiveness, anticipation, leadership, calm demeanor, and amazing ability to scramble has made the team much better than they were before. He’s fortunate to have the quality team and play calling around him, but they’re fortunate to have him too. He’s elevated the team and it’s obvious.

I’ve always liked the chiefs, as well. I liked Andy Reid back when he was with the eagles - Mahomes is awesome to watch too. I was sad to lose the super bowl to them but I’d rather lose to them than most other teams. I like the way the organization is ran. I’m big on ownership and how they treat the players.

Not me. I’m a Purdy fan, period. I’ve known too many Dbag niner fans to ever become a fan. Although this guy seems cool.
