Lane Danielson pointed that out, the EIU will be fine, because they miss Michigan and Ohio State. I saw a stat earlier this year the EIU was 4th I think in conference wins, one behind Penn State over the last X number of years. But Penn State is playing Michigan and Ohio State every year while EIU rarely plays two of the three and never all three in the same year.
The team out of the West that gets to miss Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State the most during the season, generally wins the division. Next year, that will be gone, then when you add playing Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA its going to get a lot tougher for EIU.
Depending on how their schedule shakes out, with Oregon, Washington and USC coming in next year, things could get really ugly for Iowa.
Nah. For whatever reason, the conference loves consistently hooking them up with the likes of Rutgers and Indiana every year.
The B1g wants the most interesting matchups to show out.
Iowa is not a part of that group.
If I'm Iowa I don't know how worried about USC I am. Yeah, they'll be more talented. But just like they've done at times to Michigan and a few others - if Iowa can land enough body blows, they'll fold. Its still Lincoln Riley . Just like Iowa State and Oklahoma. Punch them enough times, and they'll fold.

I'd be extremely concerned if I were an Iowa fan. An aging head coach who the game passed by years ago, with an offense that is literally the laughingstock of college football. No QB in the system, and really, who on that team scares you beyond Cooper who will also be gone? I believe in what Fickel and Rhule are building, and bringing in those other schools is a perfect storm.
I'll save everyone the trouble of having to follow Iowa this year. Here is a summary of their 2023-24 season.

Iowa will venture back into the deep end in the B1G championship game and get embarrassed once again. But because Iowa is the fake ID of college football with their glossy weak schedule record, they'll sneak their way into a good bowl game in which they will get curb stomped by a decent opponent. Iowa will finish the season with a 10-4 record.
This is what having the 3rd easiest schedule in the nation gets you.

What I really enjoyed last night is that our CBS affiliate in Central Iowa, KCCI, decided to devote their entire Saturday night programing to the Iowa-Penn State game with their pre and post game specials.

The badgers aren’t bad either. Their 1 loss is a close one at Washington State who will now be a top 20 team after the polls come out.
Honestly… I think it has to do with their pink locker rooms. I think the rest of the league sees them as sexist and antiquated as they are. And I think OSU gets their way when preferring to not play in Kinnick.
Also, like you said, Iowa is second tier. As much as they want to be one of the big dogs, they aren’t. All of their really successful big 10 seasons have major asterisks because of the teams their schedule dodged.
I am not sure they have a choice in the matter. That was CBS national broadcast.
Not only will the schedule get tougher, but now the top 2 teams go to the CCG, which means they have to have a better record than all but 1 of OSU, Mich, PSU, USC, Wash, etc… it just is t going to realistically ever happen again. Plus, their bowl slot is probably going to annually slide down several pegs.
Yeah Hawkeye fans venturing out of their bubble and seeing how completely irrelevant they are and always have been nationally would be like a kid catching their parents putting presents under the tree at Christmas.
People that are really into CFB know about Iowa, but know about the fake ID. People who aren’t deeply into CFB don’t give two ***** about them or know them from any of the other non-powers.

The outrage by Hawk Fans will be short lived, their remaining schedule is really weak as they don't have a single ranked team on it. They'll likely win the Big 10 West then get their ass handed to in the Big 10 Championship game. The question is if BF and the offense will be just good enough to beat up on some of the trash teams they will play to make up enough ground to get his 25 point average. They'll probably best up on Michigan State and the Hawk fans will step back from the ledge a bit every week as they roll off some wins against weak opponents. Seems to happen every year lately after they have a bad game.
What would really make some waves is if the new interim/likely new AD in waiting wants to make a statement and fires Brian during the season as he doesn't report to Kirk so it's really not his call to make. Would be a good way for her to draw the line in the sand that nepotism doesn't mean job security.
