Muted excitement?

I have trouble with heat due to a med that I take. I bought a neck fan, and we're hoping for the best. I may end up watching half of the game from the Jacobsen building.
I wish they'd let the fans bring more water, water bottles, etc. with the heat being so high. Have a spray bottle and just keep misting away.

Trouble is, with the bottle restriction, people who may want to do this will be running often to the water stations or bathrooms to fill up. That's a problem.

Good luck to all!! How hot is it suppose to get again?

Go Cyclones!!!!

With the gambling thing, us being predicted to finish last or second to last in the conference, and then the record heat on top of it... that is not a good combination. I think it's going to be embarrassingly empty tomorrow.

It's all self inflicted though. CMC had better not complain about it. His team won 4 games last season and only one conference win... then he had 5 critical starters all go against everything he preaches and be selfish and not think of 'the team' and get themselves in trouble. Can't do anything about the heat, but if we were coming off a better season, and had 5 starters not basically been kicked off the team, and experts picking us to win 9 games... the place would be almost full.
CD, let's not argue OK, but I do remember a post of yours a couple of weeks ago, on a different thread, and I thought you said you'd be cheering the team on. It was great, very little neg vibe.

Now we are back at square one again, my friend. Can't you just think the negative stuff, if you have to, but not actually type it? We don't really want to hear it, especially on game 1.

Dude.

Not just for our team but for college football as a whole. The game has changed and not for the better. In pursuit of the all mighty dollar, the things that made college football special are rapidly disappearing or long gone.

The amount of commercials is brutal at my house. In the ac and the ability to have a beer. Can’t imagine 95F. With no beers

Idiots?? I would say over half or at least half of Cyclone fans that actually pay attention are not expecting more than 5 wins this season. Don’t get me wrong, I hope we freaking go 10-2 but I’d say most of us are being realist for the year. Everyone will be cheering their asses off hoping to have a great season, but tempering expectations does not make people idiots.
Why do you hope we lose two games and which two are you rooting against us?

I wish they would mute the crap they play over the sound system during pre-game warm-ups. Threshold of pain. But, you know, we are getting pumped up to make some noizzzzzzzzz

I worry we could have a lot of empty seats in the 2nd half. With the long hours if tailgating before the game, a lot of fans may not be able to handle the heat for several hours.

IMO the rapid demise of the PAC 12 along with Clemson & a couple friends openly unhappy with being stuck in the ACC points toward the top 54 or so schools creating their own entity without NCAA governance. Being old school, I like the traditional regional rivalries ISU had with Missouri & Nebraska, current KSt & Ok St, and the CU reunion. What is bad is the lack of control of NIL & transfers by the NCAA with the intention of letting the players reap some of the financial gain going to the schools. Add in the Wild West of player gambling and the NCAA is totally at fault for what has ensued. It’s time to play football before more *hit hits the fan.

A TON of seats in Jack Trice are held by resellers who had it easy through the Purdy seasons. After last year they maybe aren't going to be as easy to move at the asking price.

Do not underestimate how the oppressively long television commercial breaks are affecting the game day experience. This game will not have that, but I have turned down other game day offers because I don't want to sit there through those, amongst other things.

I just look at it as a continuation of whst it's been about since day one: money.

Amen. College football games average around 16 commercial breaks per game, each lasting 2 1/2 - 3 minutes. The one advantage of being on ESPN+ today is that the commercial breaks will be a little shorter.

Then there's a 20 minute halftime. Payton Manning said halftime adjustments are a myth - he never made a halftime adjustment in his 18 year career. He said all the players do at halftime is eat a few oranges, go to the bathroom, and wait for the coach to yell let's go. He says the halftime could be cut in half.

The team apparently moved on from the gambling thing in April and why would CMC complain about it?

I meant that CMC better not complain if Jack Trice is 2/3rds full today. Coming off a 4 win season, with only 1 conference win, then the gambling thing, everyone predicting us to finish last or next to last in the conference, and then throw in 94 degree temps... people are not excited to go to this game, or excited for the season for that matter. But don't blame the fans for that.

I'll always be excited every year to watch the Clones, but I'm the definition of a 'fanatic'. Not everyone is that way. I'm very excited to see how all the young talent plays, and it will be easy to cheer for them... especially knowing that they are the ones that resisted going out and gambling and had the 'team' first attitude.
