Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

My Cal and Stanford prediction. They both want the Big 10, but won't get it. If they both think they are too good for the Big 12, they will think they are too good for the new Pac 12/MWC. I predict Stanford will go independent. They can afford it. I predict Cal will go FCS and join the Big Sky.

Cal Tech is a globally elite school with no sports. It's private but as highly regarded as Cal. That would probably be too sudden of a transition to ever try.

I still think on the whole ASU thing it’s a very small group speaking for everyone else when everyone else changed their mind. Sure, they originally wanted to stay committed to the PAC 12, and I don’t blame them for that. But when reality set in and no real media deal was ever going to be signed, they realized the Big 12 was the best option. Except Crow keeps being a **** about it. And, as was pointed out earlier in the thread, nobody at ASU has even liked Crow for the last several decades.
Exactly. The Monty Show (based in SLC) was talking about Utah fans yesterday. They agree that Utah Twitter fans are about the worst in the country, but that most Utah fans and the school admins are actually not bad.

I suspect the Pac and MWC will merge. Effectively it'd be the remaining Pac moving to the MWC, but they'd want to keep the Pac 12 name/history, so it'd be the MWC voting to dissolve and the Pac adding them all.
I could see the MWC dissolving and joining the PAC as a group and MWC leadership taking the helm. The PAC has better CFP access than the MWC (for the rest of the current deal) and better bowl agreements (for however long those run) in addition to the better brand and history.

The main stumbling block is the media deal. The MWC has one, while the PAC doesn't. If the MWC dissolves, does their media deal go with it? I think they're getting $6.5M/, so it wouldn't be a crazy number to beat or match. Perhaps CBS and FOX would be fine with just transferring their current deal over. One thing, for certain, would the PAC's leadership is going away.

Yeah, I'm sure the vast majority of arrogant fans at ASU and even Utah have done a 180 in the past few days and now would love a Big 12 invite.

But the reality is we already have Arizona and BYU on board.

We should ask the media partners if ASU and Utah give us more $$$ and only add them if we do, don't add them if they don't maintain or increase payout. They'll be there later, we're no longer in danger of being eclipsed by ACC/Pac. Neither B10/SEC is going to expand with Utah and there's an incredibly slim chance (not impossible) the SEC looks at the board and takes ASU. ASU's best non Big 12 chance is some day the SEC looks at them as a way to even out numbers the way BY has been looking at Uconn.

Correct. I read too fast......thought it said cal Berkley

Cal is close to being Pepperdine athletically and I still see nothing online about them.

The silence is crazy on Cal especially but Stanford too.

If it's truly about "culture" then Stanford and Cal should be WCC and drop football out of CTE/admissions fairness socio-political concerns.

I don't think it's ever mostly about culture though, that's just something people say.

Had we not taken BYU off the board the Pac would've been looking hard at them.

Let’s bring Oregon State and Washington State at 15 and 16, and force the others to go independent or to the MWC. I don’t care about media value. There are some schools left who deserve to live on in top-level college athletics and some who are proving that maybe they don’t. Plus, OSU and WSU are much better organizational fits in the B12 than any of the other schools. Take Arizona, offer OSU/WSU the next spots but Fox doesn’t have to match the pro-rata (would be reduced share, $20M). It’s clear the others don’t want to be a part of the Big 12.

OSU WSU would be great conference members though I'm afraid the lifeboat is full. But I'd love to have them in conference

So when do we get to officially start our WE SURVIVED megathread? It's finally our turn to be the grave dancers instead of down in the graves.

Partial jimlad. ASU and UU are being pricks, **** them. I feel hard for the Wazzu, OreSt crowd though. Been there.

What happens to the Rose Bowl? I had a blast the last time I went for the McCaffrey show!

If I were in charge of Big Ten...the Rose Bowl (the stadium) would be in a 2 or 3 year cycle as CCG venue in a nod to that history.

Assuming Rose Bowl (the bow) remains part of this playoff system any of this nonsense of them favoring Big Ten over any other teams needs to permanently die.
