Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

If IF the Big Ten is only taking OR/WA, Stanford/Cal have reached a true crossroads about what athletics really is on those campuses.

I can't imagine they'll allow themselves to be associated with some of the new members of the league they'll be in (looking at you Boise State and SMU) but do they want to pull the plug to the point of being West Coast Ivy affiliates or joining the rest of the UC system in the Big West. That's turned into the most interesting piece for me at this point since everything else feels like a done deal.

Oh boy do I have a few thoughts on this. The state passed a law last year that homeowners can xeriscape their yards and cities or HOAs can’t stop them. So guess what we did .

This year, they “clarified” the law saying HOAs can require up to 50% turf. So we are in a battle with our HOA because we just did the xeriscaping without prior approval and did all rocks and desert plants.

We live in a newer neighborhood, with homes still being built. The developers still control the HOA until all the homes are completed. They want lush green lawns. Because short-term property values and profits.

Edit: Thanks for letting me rant on this in the expansion thread.
No problem. I just feel sorry for many out west who don't have the abundant water that we have in the midwest.

It does remind me of some of the clichés, "I've got some swamp land in FL" or "some oceanfront property in A-ri-zo-na", though.

These developers just need to be controlled, somehow. They are doing a disservice to everyone in the long run. But they don't see it that way or care. Money $$.

You never know, but seems the writing is clearly on the wall.....AZ ASU Utah to B12....OR WA to B10. It's sad to see, but this sheds Stanford, Cal, Oregon St, and Wash St from the Power 5. Before any potential shedding from the ACC in years to come, this puts the total number of Power 5 schools at 64, which is exactly what was talked about years ago with the 4x16. Although it looks like the ACC will probably shed a few and the remaining schools will consolidate within the B10, B12, SEC. This would most likely create a 3x20. You never know in this realignment stuff, but I just can't see any conferences going over 20.....that would just create more problems vs the benefits.
Well, those 4, plus the 11 in the MWC, plus Hawaii for FB only... gives you a 16 team conference for football.

That's assuming that Stanford doesn't go independent and Cal doesn't just resign to "spend more time with family".

Without ORWA there is no deal. And they are going to leave. No way is B1G going to allow ORWA to Big 12. Strengthens Big 12.
Oh yeah I agree. ORWA ain’t coming to the Big 12. Which is fine. What I’m saying is this doesn’t really hinge on Arizona, because with the B10 news coming out that they’ll take ORWA if the P12 dies, there’s absolutely no way the ducks and dogs are going to sign a deal to save the PAC. Even if they wanted to, how can AZ/ASU agree to an Apple deal that ORWA won’t sign. AZ/ASU have to leave

Hate to burst your bubble, but you think a conference with the leftovers from the P12, B12, ACC and some G5 schools is sitting at the same table with what the SEC and B10 would look like at that point? This is pretty obviously a 2 conference race.

I never bought that Cal and Stanford were in too serious of contention for spots. Gotta save some room for both Notre Dame and ACC schools which are much more valuable. Stanford only gets taken if it is somehow a package deal with Notre Dame.

B1G: We would like to have some of those PAC flowers you planted in the ground, but we will wait until everyone else gets a chance to pick some. We want to be kind and generous to everyone.

Big 12: **** your PAC flowers, get me the mower!!

I just don't think it makes sense to add schools for the sake of adding schools at this point. The Big Ten and the SEC are in an advantageous enough position that they can go trophy hunting, like when the Big Ten added USC and UCLA and the SEC added OU and Texas. Even if Oregon and Washington ended up in another conference (that isn't the SEC), the Big Ten would still certainly view them as an expansion target moving forward and them being in the new Big 12 or staying in a new-look Pac 12 wouldn't hinder their interest in one of the top two.

It’s not for the sake of adding schools. It’s for the sake of possibly not being able add schools later.

Are they including the numbers to the right of the decimal point??

Thought they were AAU, you'd think they would understand "significant digits".
Idk… that’s some sort of ‘crazy spouse at the divorce arbitration’ number. Just laughably inflated.

BY should tell them they get 25 million per year for the first 2 years and the big 12 will buy all their stickers and letterhead.

Because we’re self aware enough to know there would never be a “P3” or be one of the “Big 2”? You can watch us on espn and Fox. See you there.

Weird flex.

B1G knew they mortally wounded the PAC 12 when they took USCLA. GK was in denial the whole time thinking he could still get $50 million per team. Totally unrealistic. And how do you deal with someone so out of touch. That is when BY swooped in and was realistic with financials. He’d make a deal. And it wasn’t the biggest money but decent enough. Took the available linear spots left. GK was a man with a deteriorating product with limited media consumers. And just strung everyone along while cashing his checks. He never had a decent deal.

They fully interjected themselves back into this mess yesterday only to destabilize and now are again asking someone else to act first.

But I guess the rich have never been accused of being overly brave.
I'm skeptical of: the Big12 act first for legal reasons or perception that Big10 was demise of Pac12.

It's about money. If Big12 takes corner 4, ORWA don't have any attractive options. They can then swoop in and add ORWA for $31.7M.

What are ORWA's options: join Big12, see if ACC can get them $17M or join MWC.
