Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Because the big ten doesn’t own the majority of BTN anymore and those carriage fees aren’t what they were. Also the presidents don’t want a P2. That is a media and message board narrative. They added the LA schools because it is a perfect fit of academics, athletics, politics, and market. Could it happen one day, sure, but there is zero rush for the big ten or sec to make a move. Especially since they are still trying to figure out how to integrate the LA schools.
They still get a share of the carriage fees. So in the end they add up, and still matter. Similar to the out of the box thinking ideas, that people like from BY. Any way you increase revenue is a good thing.

Those carriage fees matter to the media partners that own parts of the BTN. I look at it like royalties, And being they only get a share of them means getting the biggest markets is what matters most. Because that is what gets them the most, and is most important.

Longer trip means higher cost. And not just for the football team. You have to factor in all teams that are participating in the B1G. Track, tennis, golf, gymnastics, swimming, etc. Those add up over time.
Really... last I checked I can fly to Vegas, in many cases cheaper than to Chicago. The whole distance is more expensive is overblown. The amount of distance difference for LA to Seattle vs LA to Chicago area is insignificant in the cost and time, in the long run. Especially when they are getting $50m+ a year more in the B1G vs PAC.

Still just a plane ride. I dont see it mattering if they add Washington and Oregon. They arent taking a bus from LA to Seattle, so a plane to Seattle vs a plane to the MidWest is not much different.
Problem is good luck hiring extra charter jet pilots.

A plane ride from LA to Ann Arbor to play a noon ET kick which feels like 9 AM to a someone used to Pacific Time. Body clock games are a real thing, and its much harder to go west to east than east to west. By adding teams in the same time zone, that reduces the number of those body clock games for the west coast schools.

I fly LA-Orlando once or twice a year and the direction from LA to Orlando just completely kills an entire day even non stop compared to when I fly anywhere in central time zone.

The times USC/UCLA plays in eastern time zone it's going to be quite a bit different than their already long trips to Seattle/Pullman because at least that was no time change.

For Washington in the Big 12 at least we're not quite as Eastern as the Big Ten is, for now, after ACC crumbles we probably will be.
