Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

This is really interesting. Between Washington, WSU, Oregon, OSU, Stanford, and Cal (the others besides the 4 corners) it is hard to find one that wouldn't shock me on either the school side or the Big 12 side. The Big 12 would obvioulsy want it to be Oregon or Washington but neither feel like they would jump until the Pac 12 went up in flames and either OSU or WSU would desperately want a safe landing spot but I doubt the Big 12 would take either at this juncture.

If you force Oregon or Washington to take the next move, before the TV contract done you effectively kill the PAC. Wouldn’t mind even sending either a larger share (non discounted to extent as say Cincy) to do so as long as came with long media rights.

Colorado or Cal or certainly Oregon St doesn’t accomplish that goal.

I would guess Oregon. They don't fit the B1G nearly as well as UW. UW has bigger/better tv markets (matters to BTN), better academics, larger endowment... just a better B1G fit.

People think Oregon is great because they have had football success, but as an institution UW is much closer to the rest of the B1G than Oregon. IIRC, I said earlier in this thread that Stanford is likely higher on B1G list than Oregon. So put my chips on Oregon as the mystery fit.

Although it also could be a BY rumor to get AZ off the pot lol. "I see many things… I see plans within plans"
B1G may have been trying to leave a seat open by taking Stanford and attempting to use that as bait to lure ND, or easily back-filling quickly with UO

Seriously, what would you do right now if you're UO or UW?
  • You conference is on the verge of collapse.
  • Even if your conference survives, you know your payout and exposure will pale in comparison to what you'd receive in the Big 12.
  • While a Big 10 invite might eventually come, you can't see it anywhere on the horizon.
I'd still stay, get the easy auto bid, and collect the CFP checks. I'd use their leverage to negotiate unequal revenue sharing with the rest of the conference.

As long as OR/WA's share is within sniffing distance of the Big 12, it wouldn't matter to me what anyone else in the conference gets.

This will bide them until the 2030s to see what the B1G does.

Oregon is the only one that I can wrap my head around to be honest (outside the 4 corners). They seem to fit culturally with what BY and the Big 12 are trying to build much more than Stanford, Cal, or Washington. They also feel the most likely to do what is in their atheltic programs best interest and worry less about academic and other perceptions of the move. Also, Oregon's AD and Pollard being really close friends might be a tiny factor as well.

If the surprise school is Washington or Oregon, the other probably comes too. Unless the other has a deal with Stanford to the B1G or something like that.

I still think whoever it is, it is a play to knock over other dominos with the B1G. Had this been a year ago, it may have worked when everyone had itchy trigger fingers. GK slow-rolling this has served to force reflection, for what it's worth. This is almost the worst kept secret in the world...not sure it makes the splash it does last year.
