Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Weird since it’s he university presidents and athletic departments making these decisions…

I’m not one to ever defend billionaires but that rant is so far off from where the blame goes.
there's a lot to share the blame but if you think Presidents and AD's dictate this more than ESPN Fox CBS ABC NBC etc you are completely clueless buddy

you don't think AD's and Presidents wouldn't prefer way better fan experience and better rivals with nearby schools and much better gameday / fan experience???

who doesn't give a crap bout that stuff and just wants biggest schools / max revenue? TV RIGHTS.

Sigh.

No one can force the presidents to do anything. At least not for the top conferences. No one forced the SEC to add OUT. Just like no one forced the big ten to add the LA schools. They did it because they fit in very well with what the conference is trying to do and because the AD’s want more money. Just like how the big ten is no longer in business with ESPN the next media deal they could have no business with NBC or CBS either. You’re just very wrong with this take.

I just now got around to listening George’s opening remarks and everything around the deal. Thanks to the Sic’em 365 guys for their content on that. Woof that was rough to listen to. Not even because I am a Big 12 fan but you can’t say that went well. It was so rehearsed and careful (which he still screwed up a few times) to say certain things a certain way. It was awkward and not strong.

Sankey, Yormark, and precious guys like Delaney and Slive do not sound like that. That made Dan Beebe look good.

The "additional players" thing makes this even better.

I'm having a hard time buying that there's a media entity out there that's watched the past year, especially the circus over the summer, and said "yeah, I want a piece of that."

Mediacom channel 22 could be in on the negotiations

Which is interesting because he always denied there were concerns to begin with. So he’s basically saying he was lying before by admitting they are “subsiding”.

God I wish sports journalists had to ******* name sources. They wonder why their profession is dying.
The unnamed sources bs is a big problem. I get it, if you’re breaking something like Watergate.

But now all reporters in all types of stories just use anonymous sources is the standard rather than the exception. It’s one of the reasons for the decline of the industry imo.

i think it's a combination of what we are both saying. we agree, money is reason LA teams are moving to B10?

well where does the $ come from?

it comes from TV deals. who wants $? everyone. Presidents. ADs. TV/media.

it becomes a cluster F because there's contracts in place and now you get teams jumping as soon as a deal is over or new one starting elsewhere.

ideally you'd reset entire market. scratch all tv contracts. group schools geographically. create new tv deals based off that. big schools in every market. everyone wins. fans have 10x better experience.

but nope. we're stuck with this circus.

Yep agree the money is the reason the LA schools are leaving, exposure is second but obv money is number one.

It’s not really a cluster F like you are saying although from a Big12 perspective I totally get it. It’s the reason I came to this board on the first place because outside of the Big12 no one else really cares about realignment.

In a similar vein most fans are having the same experience they were having before all this outside of the Big12. The Big12 just gets kicked over and over again with little of it being justified or making sense so I understand where you’re coming from. I was only pointing out that if I was passing blame around I would put the vast majority of it on the AD’s.

There’s always Cosi, or the Heroes & Icons network - or Pluto TV
I have to imagine it’s more streaming services. Everyone thinks Netflix is going to get into live sports at some point. Amazon and Apple already are so I could see some money being thrown that way. After all for a multi trillion dollar company a pac12 deal is a rounding error.

Like I have to remind my wife often, “no one got rich by spending all their money”. There are no rounding errors at giant public corporations.

As someone who has friends pretty high up at Amazon and google I can tell you with 100% certainly that there is. Not like a legit accounting error obv but some crazy stories.

i think it's a cluster F having teams from all over the country in one conference. makes no sense for anything other than money. that's the part that is a cluster F and insanely impacts fans experience.

I agree it’s a money grab, and bad for the non revenue athletes. I would push back and say that it doesn’t negatively impact the fan experience, kinda the opposite for me personally, but again that’s just a big ten fan perspective.
