Friday OT #2 - Islands In the Stream

Bose home smart speakers, Spotify.

This and this.

It's just so easy and convenient.

I actually liked Pandoras algorithm unlike Angie, it was good for finding new stuff but I haven't used it for probably 10 years.

I kinda miss the days things were a bit harder. Getting mp3s and playing them in WinAmp. It really whips the llamas ass.

I have a Sonos Port. My turntable is an Audio Technica that has red and white audio hookups (into the Port) but can also do bluetooth (which I used before Port).
Sonos likes wifi much more than bluetooth.

Mine is also Audio Technica! I will look into the Port, thanks!

Mine is a model AT-LP60XBT. I have it connected to a head phone amp(Analog out) as well as bluetooth to my desktop speakers.

I am not sure what model mine is without going and looking, but this is great that you can do it for dual purposes!

I listen using Alexa to stream several non-commercial channels like KFMG-LP and The Current and music from Amazon Music.

Vintage and newer vinyl. But honestly use Sirius via Alexa the most. Because it's easier. Also stream a lot of my favorite Sirius shows to my phone when I'm doing my long morning walks with the pup.

Also have CDs from back when they were THE thing.

I still feel like for stuff I really want to own, I like to have it on physical media that I can hold in my hands.

(I also have an old IPOD that I loaded up with lots of ripped stuff. I never listen to that anymore)

Fifteen years ago, all of my music lived in iTunes so I could sync it to my various iPods. I had Spotify early, but didn’t use it consistently. Ten years ago, I used a lot of Pandora until I got sick quickly of the algorithm. Now we are a Spotify Family household. There are other, more robust options, but it just integrates with everything from our home sound o the cars, etc - it is ubiquitous.

How do you listen to your music? YouTube, downloads, etc?
My digital music trajectory is almost exactly the same as yours. I had two iPods, one big one for everything and a Shuffle for working out/running.
When I started college in 2010, I started shifting to Pandora and really enjoyed the variety at first but eventually got sick of not having control. Hated that songs would get repeated over and over and not being able to skip them.
Spotify came out and it was almost free if you signed up with a .edu email address, and I never looked back.

I've made a shift to getting vinyl for the albums/artists I like most and have an inherited 1950's era console stereo that I got restored to working condition. It's a great way to listen to music!

I am similar. Used to do 100% itunes. Finally got a spotify membership three years ago.

Though it is fun to go back to my itunes playlists on my phone and listen to them since they are 5+ years old.

Another very fun thing to do is to charge one of my old devices (shuffle, itouch, etc) and listen to whats on there. It's like going back to 2013 version of me.

I use Pandora at work, but agree with the sentiment of too many repeats and poor algorithm. Will use youtube sometimes, but similar issues and since not paying get a lot of ads (plus more data when out and about). I can't bring myself to pay that much for spotify really, when the radio is free.

GF has amazon prime music, but only 1 stream at a time. So no bueno if she is out driving or riding. Maybe we will get the family version...

I started with Napster and Winamp (it really whipped the Llama's ass). Then to Strangesearch as mentioned. Then Pandora, now on Spotify. Mainly that because it works really well with my Sonos setup.

It works well with Android Auto as well, though I almost always listen to Podcasts, and ironically don't like Spotify for those!

All my physical music is uploaded to my iTunes on my computer and I have a handful of purchased singles on there, too. However, my last iDevice went kaput recently. Too lazy to get any of it on my Android phone, so I just use Spotify or actual radio stations if I'm in the car.

Mostly Apple Music since I have a bundled subscription for apple stuff. However I am getting tired of their algorithm for finding new music or deep cuts or whatever. But it’s been pretty good overall.

We’ve got a two person Spotify account. One for me, one for the Echos scattered around the house. I didn’t like my Spotify feed being gobbled up by baby shark and fart noises, so I got my own. The wife primarily uses the radio and YouTube.

I use Apple Podcasts the most though.
