Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

BB we will be. Probably be down a little in FB.

BYU isn’t that diff than replacing OU for attendance total and %. I think they’re sold out season tix. Texas obviously a known loss of a big high attendance stadium.

Huge question marks for attendance imho are Cincy and Houston. Cincy has small stadium but what % will they get? My coworker’s son just had UCF orientation and they said Big 12 is all anybody talked about the whole weekend, I have a feeling they will have great fan response.

Probably, but I deleted Twitter off my phone 3 months ago and haven't looked back. It's kind of nice to not have **** shoved in my face that's intentionally being sent my way to make me mad.
There's absolutely more of that lately. Twitter is at it's best for breaking events. I followed the Boston Bomber hunt in real time. Stuff on there way before it hit the news.

It's always been a **** show. Absolutely the worst of humanity. Somehow it's even worse lately.

That's saying something. But I'll keep doom scrolling waiting for PAC news to break
Since Elon took over, and the "For You" tab showed up, I've been getting fed (whether it's sports or politics) a bunch of accounts with extreme ridiculous takes that seem clearly engineered to piss me off. Because they know that drives interaction.

**** them. I just wanted to follow sports, music, funny people, and the occasional real news break.
Can you even sign up for twitter and they not constantly send you stuff?

I have always used our Apple account, one where we sign in using our Apple device account ID, but now that is blocked for some reason.

So if I sign up again, with a different account and using my wife's phone (I don't have a phone), will she get a bunch of unwanted tweets or links, on her phone? I don't want that.

I'm hesitant to sign up for twitter because of this.

I dont get notifications from twitter, You can block notifications on your phone, from any app. I believe you can set up Twitter to only notify for certain things or nothing etc.

Not sure exactly which I have set up, I think I did it in the twitter settings because I never get notifications, even when I get a new phone, outside a few emails occasionally. But those you can get rid of too.

edit: there is a lot of settings you can adjust in notifications, what you want and dont want for notifications.

UCLA really has no fan presence at all. Zero. I used to live not too far from campus and now I live 5 miles from Rose Bowl. They are going to get a massive attendance bump, but it will be from big ten fans making it a vacation since the stadium, weather and area are incredibly beautiful and UCLA has almost no ticket demand of its own.

USC is a little different. While none of their games sniff the ticket demand for ISU vs Iowa, they do have an actual fan presence on game day. If you’re near the stadium on game day you know a game is going on. You see the gear and you see fans. In Westwood or Pasadena you have no idea a UCLA football game is even happening unless you drive right up to the rosebowl. I’d rather go to a UCLA away game as a b10 fan.

I’m told when USC is a title contender it suddenly changes and USC tickets skyrocket, they’ve only been so so the nine years I’ve been around so haven’t seen it.

Fwiw as a cubs fan, 2016 NLCS tickets started at $120 in LA and well over $1000 at Wrigley. The US Open was basically on UCLA campus a few weeks ago and absolutely nobody in the area cared at all.
All people need to know about UCLA is they brought everyone back from a final four team and averaged 8k per game. UCLA seems like the odd school that gets decent interest nationally but doesn’t have much of an actual fanbase that cares.

I guess we'll see what happens with UConn.

Basketball school that seems to be at home in the Big East. But it should also be noted they are the only public state university left in a league of small private Catholic schools. In the long run a move to a conference like the Big 12 could be beneficial to them as a university. Hopefully Yormark/B12 has done enough research to determine that they're additive for the league.

Still cashing in on the Wooden Era.

Don't think they "send" me anything. I get so much spam that maybe they're part of that ****. Selling contact info, but mostly they push weird **** to me in the app.

YouTube also seems to think I need military grade shorts and creepy Lions Not Sheep stuff. That seems like a fairly recent change too

They averaged 10.3K during conference play but still 3,000+ short of selling out. It’s also in LA so your options for other nighttime activities is off the charts.

Yes. Particularly additive for 2031. Part of the reasoning for adding them now may be to give the football program a 5 or 6 year runway to get up to snuff prior to the next round of tv negotiations.

I'm lukewarm on UConn, but I'd be able to get behind it if that's what leadership think is best. Obviously there's value in the basketball program. Unlike Gonzaga, their success extends beyond one coach, they're a state flagship University with a large student population, and overall growth potential is probably higher than a small private school in Spokane.

I'm sure Yormark is already envisioning promoting a Uconn game or two a year at Madison Square Garden. Adding the Huskies wouldn't be the worst move...

If BY and the media $ think it is a good move, I am fine with it. It would be nice to play a bad FB team occasionally and nothing says they will be bad forever.

But at this stage, I just think this is BY keeping the Big 12 in the media consistently. He is pretty good at "leaking" a new take every week or so, not that this is that new.

For sure. I think people are hung up on their football, but they have the profile and resources to be a good add.

I'm definitely not on the Gonzaga train.

I think a few other possible reasons worth mentioning are:
- weather: as mentioned before, when I lived there I was outdoors most of the time
- ethnicity: it's widely known the Asian rim is acquiring an ever-growing percentage of CA real estate; their interests not likely college sports
- affordability: cost of living in CA is, quite simply, high; making the marginal ticket price less reachable. Yes, it might equate higher media viewership, but not sure.
It'll be really interesting to see where USC/UCLA will sit regarding attendance over the next 5 years; guessing an initial jump before settling into declining due to less 'visitor' attendance.
When I lived in California (Bay Area), I looked at the weather being a positive factor for going to Cal or Stanford games. I was like, it sure is nice getting to go to a football game AND enjoying nice weather at the same time. Of course, this was on the heels of 6 years of dealing with Cyclone Football Weather!

I only get on Twitter if somebody posts a tweet on here that I'm interested in looking at. Which isn't often. I don't have an account so I can't really dive into those tweets, and I'm ok with that. Twitter sucks.
ISUTex, so you are ok with it, not being able to see the tweets posted here?

I can't see the tweets posted here any longer, since being blocked. I find it very difficult to follow threads on CF now, which are heavy with twitter links. I do miss that.

I don’t have Twitter and I can see every posted tweet

I get what you're saying, but the fact that college sports aren't a priority is the point. It isn't a point in their favor that they have other things to do.

Yeah, that's good, the way it should be!

But for some reason (I didn't do anything differently, nor do I even post on twitter), I was completely locked out of twitter about 2 weeks ago. I can no longer open or see ANY tweet/links posted here.

I have no idea as to why.

UConn won more football games than we did last season with a new coach, Jim Mora Jr. It's not a guarantee that they would be an auto win for us.
