Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

The PAC AD's who said they were going to see numbers by the end of the month are going to look like fools again aren't they?

It’s now to the point where these people aren’t going to look like fools, they are going to look like mentally challenged people that we have to feel sad for.

Could someone explain to me how a PAC 12 -USC/UCLA + SDSU & SMU would get a TV deal worth more than their current 20.8 deal? Let alone match or beat the 32 million extension the Big 12 has? Anyone? I wasn’t a business major but I’m also not ******* moron.

Values for everyone else increased over that time.

They'll certainly get less than they would have gotten with USC\UCLA, but more than they would have gotten at the last contract negotiation had they not had those teams at that time.

They have an incredible time zone issue. I am of the firm belief that if B12 hadn’t expanded more inventory in the eastern time zone and new inventory in the mountain time zone we would have been in BIG trouble. It’s one of the few sources of “diversification” that TV networks can get in CFB and I think they are putting a premium on it.

And less than they would’ve gotten had Yormark not jumped the line probably.

What are the chances BY has a pretty good idea (through his industry connections) of the P12 deal negotiations details? And can feed this info to any P12 schools through back channels?
If it was ESPN and FOX I would agree he would have intel. And maybe not inside information, just input from consultants because viewership metrics vs. media value are likely the same whether Big10, Big 12 or Pac 12.

If the rumors are Apple and linear partners like CW or ION, my guess is BY less of an idea what Pac12 has been offered.

Are The CW and ION considered linear?

Honestly I'm kind of surprised the pac 12 isnt inviting them either way. If they stay together they would probably want them to keep their presence in southern california. If they dont, the remnants definitely need that backfill

I would tend to agree. But it might be hard to invite SDSU if the Pac10 doesn't know what their TV deal is. The Big12 agreement had a prorata clause for adding other P5 schools, but what if Big12 adds G5? Pac could have similar prorata clause or maybe that language is still being negotiated.

Also, not sure how Pac12 can have a deal until they know OR WA are staying put. And I would think they are still working the Big10 behind the scenes.

If the Pac10 would lose the corner 4 and OR WA this summer, it might be the MWC adding Pac schools.

The PAC backfilling with SDSU seems far more likely at this point.

It wouldn't surprise me at all of AZ/CO or other schools basically told the PAC we need to have a deal done by X date and at least X money and X visibility. If the PAC knows they're not going to meet those metrics, it's time to start looking for replacements.

My guess is inflation, which has been rampant the last couple years.;)

A little more serious. My guess is they look at the $20M amount as media pricing 10 years ago and 2023 pricing should be much higher and why GK was promising Presidents $40M last year.

So really you have to think all this chummy comaraderie is just a show so a media deal can somehow get cobbled together. This way teams leaving can do so with a clear conscience that they didn't blow things up, and did everything they could to keep things together until the very end.
Problem is I'm sure any media deal they sign will be contingent on the teams that are in the conference stay in the conference. So any deal they sign will be worthless once teams start leaving.

I couldn't even tell you if YTTV has Ion or CW. 100% for real I don't think I've ever watched those channels.

The Pac12 is currently going to be at 10 schools after this season, losing USC and UCLA, one can conclude that SDSU and SMU have been told they are going to be the two replacement schools for the two leaving. So, telling the MWC that they are leaving next year, before the end of the month is going to save them around 15 million dollars. SDSU will play in the MWC conference this year, just as planned, and then after their TV deal is finished both schools will be announced as the two new members of the P12.

No way Oregon and Washington sign a long term GOR of more than 5 to 6 years. What Colorado or Arizona do will not affect SDSU and SMU joining the league at all, they then become the 9th and 10th members as opposed to the 11th and 12.
