Ja Morant Suspension

IMO Ja’s problems are associated with his posse and his lack of distancing himself from their influence along with his need to be part of that “scene”. His comments after reinstatement to the NBA post rehab are troubling because he just can’t give that nightclub lifestyle up. The gun thing is not the issue, he got a pretty severe wake up call that cost him potential millions and now he can’t be trusted. Very talented with the potential to be a long term face of a franchise and sad to see it thrown away.
Agreed. NBA insiders have hinted that the gun pictures and videos are only part of it (a big part, though). The people Morant has been around and associated with have the NBA and the Grizzlies concerned.

Exactly. It’s hilarious to see people clutching their pearls over Ja. We’re a nation with a gun crazy culture that glorifies carrying guns in public. I recently watched a popular politician running for governor driving a campaign car around with a machine gun mounted on top, to wild cheers. Now he’s the states attorney general.

Yet people want to come down hard on Ja for showing off his gun in a social media video? Big ******* deal. Spare me the hypocrisy.

That’s our culture. Embrace it.

Texas?

This country is sick and demented on both sides as far as the gun debate goes.
Still no clue how a little more effort on gun control does any harm, but free access to guns left and right can easily lead to so many deaths. Doesn’t make sense to continue as is

Yup, the issue is not about the gun but about his overall behavior and associations. For me it is how he put himself in danger. The lack of control and associating himself with combustible crowd could end up horribly.

It's not a good look for the NBA to have their potential stars waving guns around in nightclubs and on insta, you guys don't have to get all weird and political.
Somebody gets it. NBA is a business. Maybe doesn’t like one of their prominent players glorifying and being non-chalant with guns. Especially one in a city with violent crime problems.

The NBA apparently has a conscience. Good for them. Some people and organizations want to glorify guns. I guess I’m good with the NBA being the better organization.

It is pretty obvious that he is on a path that will lead to something seriously bad happening. His buddy had some disagreement with the Pacer’s travel party and then Ja and that buddy were accused of pointing a gun at the Pacers Team bus after a game. Ja is surrounded by idiots. The league wants him to change is ways and this latest video implies he hasn’t taken any steps to do that.

Precisely, a sports league and/ore franchise being a radically better organization than one that represents about 50% of all the country.

It's not like we're talking about something trivial, our kids are statistically more likely to die from this than any other cause.

Agree with the Ja/NBA take, but their conscience in regard to China leaves a little to be desired.

One thing ppl don't bring up with this is the NBA gets billions from other countries, some with different views on gun control then the U.S. The largest, China, bans guns. The NBA has shown it's worried about what they think in the past, likely factors into things like this as well. When marketing the game worldwide, its a bad look for the league, especially considering the view the rest of the world has on Americans and guns.

Amazing what comments are met with "Take it to the cave!!!!" and what are allowed to stay on the main board.

I think the gun nut politicians can be cringy, but showing off guns while practicing gun safety is a little different than what Morant was doing.
