2023-2024 Recruits & Transfers

The guy who should really be looking at the portal after seeing Bernie get offered $250k is Parker Keckeisen. I really hope he doesn't, because the sport is better when the studs are at smaller schools too, but if Bernie is worth $250k, Keck would be worth at least that much if not more.
My thoughts exactly. For that money, pass on an AA who is no heavy favorite to be champ like Bernie and go after 2-3 similar but smaller profile like Parker, Noto, McNeil, Humphreys, Laird, Caliendo, etc. Although illegal you know teams are doing it. God I hate what college wrestling is becoming.

Dresser made $325,000 in ‘22 (couldn’t find future earnings)
Brands making $600,000 next year going to $800,000 in ‘28-‘29
Sanderson $625,000 going to $800,000 in ‘28-‘29
I hadn’t realized wrestling coach compensation had jumped so much, but I’m glad to see it.
If there’s so much NIL money, I’d think it may breed a bit of resentment in the room if an athlete (say Truax) were making more money than an assistant coach (say Metcalf).

Is a Nagao worth $500k? Carr is worth $500k? If I’m Carr no way I stick around. $500k is life changing for my whole family. O’Toole worth $750k? Got to be, he’s a 2x national champ with 2 years left! If I’m O’Toole no way I’m staying at Missouri now knowing this. I’m going to get that money!
If you think $500,000 is life changing, I wouldn't want your life style.

There's some money in Keck's pocket. There are enough people in Cedar Falls that care enough that he and a couple others are being taken care of on the wrestling side.

If I'm in college and can get $500k, I'd call that life changing. No college debt, first house paid for, or invest and have over $4 mil by the time you're 55. That's changing a kids life compared to starting out of college buried in debt and trying to make ends meet. Had I received that instead of simply 1/2 a scholly, I'd have retired when I hit 50!

He forgets this was never about me I’m talking about being Nagao or Carr/ any college wrestler right now. Most wrestlers come from a low social economic class, with a couple in the middle. So yes, for these kids, $500k is life changing.

Carr is also being taken care of. The staff knows the value of David to the university & the wrestling program

You one of those guys with a house you can barely afford the payments and 200k in credit card debt, huh?
You got me. I spend winters on the streets in Phoenix because they have been so welcoming here. Standing on freeway corners now begging to get gas money to get back to Iowa for FB season

I think we're confusing the terms "life changing" and "retirement". $500,000 for ANYONE is life changing because you could pay cash for something you otherwise would have to save up for, or make payments on like a home. A 22 year old athlete who pays cash for his first home has changed his life. However, a 22 year old cannot retire on $500,000.

With the emphasis on $$ for some, it is living in the present without thinking about what your going to do after the short time when the spigot is turned off. You all act like these "kids" are all A student finance majors. It doesn't appear that many have shopped for houses. That's after the pay the IRS and buy bling, tats, and an 80,000 car. These kids aren't apt to be planning for the future. People paying them don't care about their futures either. It's reality. Of course many will expect the government to step in and save them or the courts to hand them a verdict after claiming they were used.
I am sure all of you were the exception and were mature beyond your years.

You are comparing Dresser to the coaches at the two biggest programs in the nation. I think he does pretty well and better than anyone in conference without the last name Smith.

Comparing coaching salaries was not my intent and it wasn’t anywhere in my comment. I hadn’t paid attention to the increase in salaries for any of the coaches. I remember not long ago when $150,000 was upper level compensation and was thinking of that in comparison to a $250,000 NIL deal. I’m behind the times
