I don't think it means the staff would necessarily take a commitment from all of them or even thinks they have a shot at some of them but might as well reach out and see where you sit with lots of guys. Then you can narrow in on guys.

Can't know for sure obviously, but I get the idea our player meetings have ended and that we're out there firing away now. Not sure there's a staff I'd rather have go get some guys than ours right now
Plus given the fact that ISU isn't an NIL powerhouse, it's worth seeing who may be looking for solely that vs. who wants a chance to be The Guy for a competitive team at the highest level and go play in March. From all accounts, ISU is/could be sitting better with NIL this year, but it's still gonna be hard to get someone who's only after that - and outside of specific cases, it's hard to know from the outside.
ISU is sitting better but so is every other school's NIL fund. I agree see who is a fit, there's lots of options, just have to get someone (or two) at SG. Big guys are more rare, they are going to get the BIG NIL $$$.
Yes, the fact that we've contacted Ike from Wyoming along with several other Power 5 schools, doesn't even get me excited now. It feels like we won't even have a shot with those guys. Even from a Wyoming (no slam to them of course.)

I'm honestly curious how recruiting with NIL works. I don't think coaches, as representatives of the school, can throw out NIL numbers or offers. Do they just give them their pitch, and then say hey, there are some people that want to meet you?
With the Miami women's hoop coaching getting in trouble, that might change the dynamic. It sounded like that is basically what the Miami women's coach did with the Cavender twins. She told them to have lunch with the Miami money guy.

In fact, I imagine HS bball recruiting is brutal...only so much human resource to go around!
I'm sure it gets communicated somehow some way with portal prospects. This transfer recruiting season will be very interesting now that it seems pretty much all P6 schools have a collective or the ability to offer NIL. Even the schools without football programs like Creighton and Marquette may have an advantage because all of their NIL funds can go to basketball. I hope I am wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't do very well this season because of the increased amount of schools that can pay. If not, it is definitely a wake up call for ISU fans in that it may be hard to maintain an NCAA tournament program without offering out the big money. Even the players in our great recruiting classes will be targets. If one guy has a great freshmen or sophomore year, other schools will reach out and offer the big money. They used to call that tampering.
I am still optimistic we will get a guard. Heck FDU had a couple D2 transfers on their roster and beat Purdue. Just watching this years NCAA and NIT games, there are a lot of guards who can score.
We might not get the ideal player, but I think we can get the player we need. After all its not like we have bad guards in Lipsey and Williams. And Hamilton might be ready as a frosh. We could be perfectly fine with a Caleb Grill type 3 point shooter (just hopefully more consistent).
How much help we need at guard depends on if TJ plans to play Biliew & Watson mainly at the 3 or 4.

For ISU having a high dollar NIL guy might do more damage than good, because not everyone is going to be getting near as much money. This has caused a lot of locker room issues on a few FB teams already.
