This might raise some eyebrows.
This certainly raises my eyebrows because it doesn't make any sense. Assuming that we get CU, UA, and ASU that means the Pac is done. So that to me means everyone in the league is scrambling for a spot.
Telling me SDSU is more attractive than Utah seems like a stretch. Telling me they are more attractive than any other P12 team seems totally insane. Hell, it seems like in a scenario like this Oregon or UW could even be available. If we get multiple corner schools the PNW schools may prefer to bide their time waiting for the B1G with us versus the smoking crater left on the west coast.
I just can't imagine a single scenario where it makes any sense for us to take SDSU. I think this is misinformation being fed to the media for some reason.
I don't think two schools in the same market is an issue for us. That is how the B1G works with jamming a network on to basic cable. We are not going to be in that model. For us it is about marketable brands and matchups on the big networks to draw eyes and sell ads, and passionate fanbases that will buy up streaming services. I think Utah has the success on the field for the brand piece, and the engaged fanbase for the streaming piece. As does BYU.The Pac never already had BYU as a full member like the Big 12 does now.
You have to take into account what does Utah bring when the Big 12 is already going to be huge in Utah without adding Utah.
SDSU might be better long term in some ways. Colorado is definitely better long term even though their AD is in rough shape now and Utah's is in good shape.
I could be wrong but I'm done with Oregon/Washington. I think it's known how little they think of the Big 12. Let them try to keep the Pac alive while they wait for Big Ten. The new era should be peer schools who all want to be in the Big 12. Honestly, it's another reason I really don't care either way if Utah is in or not.
Don't add Utah or SDSU if it doesn't make sense. Go to 13 or 14 or 15. There's no set number, be ready when the best ACC leftovers become available.
I look it this way. Equating conference realignment to rape is insulting and demeaning to rape victims. (I'm guessing that's why the tweet was deleted.)Uh... equating Big 12 fans to incels or.... potentially rapists? Is not good
having BYU and BY is confusing. my brain isn't big and or goodWhile this is probably BS, it would not surprise me at all if CU were the first to jump. They are not on solid financial ground and that difference between the PAC and Big12 may be big for them. Assuming BY is offering full shares from the start.
I disagree. We can’t on one hand argue against the importance of markets vs viewership then say Utah doesn’t bring anything. They crush CU and the AZ schools in viewers and passionate fans. The Pac never already had BYU as a full member like the Big 12 does now.

One thing about the PAC, a lot of the games get crap viewership, but when the low interest teams play rivals they get a spike. Rivalries sell. That’s why you take both Az schools. BYU-Utah will be a hate fest unlike anything in the league. Let’s be the conference with great rivalries and passionate fanbases, and let the chips fall where they may.
The Utah fans problem is that they thought they had a choice between the Big 12 and a reasonably strong PAC12. I think reality is probably slapping them in the face.I honestly see it both ways. I think at some point you are 100% correct. But right now I don’t see how Utah grows our media deal enough to add more than a share. Could still be the smart thing to do because all the other reasons and long term future make up for it.
I know their fans aren’t exactly representative of their AD decision makers, but UU is not in the safe position like Arizona who has a guaranteed reserved spot in Big 12. Their smart fans should swallow the BYU hate they’ve misplaced on the B12 until they get into big 12.
