It’s almost as if his experience in KC wasn’t the best..

I wanted to mark "winner," but that didn't match King's experience.

This thread has run it's course. More passion here than I thought.

Somehow King McClure's opinion on this matters more to me than some random poster from Oskaloosa or Ft. Madison. As does Bob Knight's.

Indiana Coach Bob Knight says the Big Ten should resist a postseason basketball tournament because it would be bad for fans and weaken schedules. LATimes
Bob Knight is a bitter crotchety old **** that we don't care about.

Career 6ppg scorer as well... sure, let him speak for the whole Big12.

I hope Conference Tournaments matter. Otherwise I'm wasting a lot of time this week!

I'll take your bait. Sure they might be more of a fan event, than important to P5 schools earning an NCAA Tournament bid. IMO their importance probably lies in determining NCAA seeds- especially deciding 1 or 2 seeds.

  • Could KU drop from a 1 seed if they lose in quarters and Houston, UCLA, Bama and Purdue win their conference tournaments?
  • Could Texas play themselves out of a 2 seed with a loss to the 7 seed?
  • Could Baylor bump up to a 2 seed if they win the Big12 and some teams right above them in the rankings lose early in their conference tournaments.

I like King McClure and respect his opinion but it’s pretty easy to see why he holds that opinion. For him though there’s zero correlation between success in the Big 12 Tournament to success in the NCAA tournament.

I’m pretty sure Coach Cal has talked about it and he says if we’re going to lose, it may as well be the first day. If not, you better win it all. That I can actually agree with.

It's an exhibition for the fans at this point. Already played everyone twice and seeds for NCAA are mostly set. Fans, maybe more so on the WBB side, think the tournament means way more than it does for NCAA seeding. I think you get a bit more drama and interest in bigger leagues where the top teams have not necessarily met twice in regular season.

IMO the regular season is nothing more than the set up for seeding in the Big 12 Championship Tournament.

Bob Knight was a jack ass. King Mclure? Did he ever win the Big 12 Championship Tournament? Probably not. Now I can see why.

It matters in as much as if you are competing in it therefore you should try to win it but in terms of the the overall season, it doesn't mean a lot.

I think it used to be assumed that if say ISU went on a run and won the Big 12 tourney it meant they were playing great ball and would carry over to the next week.

Some years, that seemed to be the case, but imo 2015 and 2019 were prime examples that the NCAA tourney doesn't care what happened 5 or 6 days earlier.

If KSU can win a game or 2, they are back in the conversation for a 2 seed. If they lose to TCU, they might drop to a 4.

Nope, doesn't matter.
