Caleb Grill has been dismissed from team

I dont know about all year but definitely since his injury. It seems like that has him frustrated and it comes out sideways in some of his antics.

Surprised this hasn't come up more in the thread. He was having the breakout year you dream of until the back injury derailed it. It's gone hand and hand with his frustration on the court.

I don't think a lot of people would have a problem with last nights action on its own. Its the pattern of losing his cool that is a bit problematic. If anyone else on the team would have gotten a technical in last nights circumstance most fans would have been OK with it.
He got away with a lot of stupid in that Texas rout which appears to have emboldened stupid in a tight game.

I don't mind what Grill did in that spot. The guy delivers a vicious cheap shot elbow, then stands over our guy. Grill is standing up for his guy. It's not like he punched the guy. Just pushed him back. I am ok with that play. What I am not ok with is missing the two free throws and then somehow they get the ball also. That made no sense to me. Grill has done some dumb things but that play was not one of them in my book. The only thing that concerns me with Grill is him going for 20 one game and being a total ghost the next game.

It gifted WVU free points.
ISU had a similar sequence to start the second half. Gabe hit a three, there was a fall under the hoop so they got the ball back, and Osun got a big dunk. That sequence seem to light a fuse for ISU

It wasn't a fall, Jaz was launched by WV big center. Two hands in the back and a hard shove. Jaz also can add a little dramatic effect to it, but it was a hard rebounding foul

Definitely since the injury. The Texas game was the first hint of major composure issue. While I don't necessarily think it was done with the intent of hurting the player, the brush under the basket was clearly intentional/avoidable. Since, there's been constant shoves, crying to the refs, and other antics Grill and the team could do without.

Everyone likes fire, this team needs it. But instead of expending energy that hurts the team I think we'd prefer it's spent helping It instead.

And here's the thing: getting physical will draw a T in that scenario 100% of the time no matter the situation. What Grill did is always a T.
Do you know what else is always a T? When a player gets called for a foul near the scorers table and takes both hands and slam them down on the table right in front of the ref. Except last night it wasn't on wv. Huggins actually told the kid don't do that again because that should have been a Technical.

It sure does but at times it could rally your team too. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t as pissed about Grill doing that as I was jaz not making hi FTs.

Even after that whole sequence ISU got back up 7.

I would be more ok with grill if he backed up his talking but lately he hasn’t been.
ISU had the momentum. They didn’t need anything to rally them. It was a complete rally killer and that swing gave WV the momentum back when it looked like ISU was poised to put WVU away.

I get the reaction, it’s understandable. But the difference in winning and losing can be keeping your composure in tough situations.

Sorry, but he doesn’t need to defend his guy. It’s college basketball. In the thousands of games when does a real fight break out? It’s why Connor McCaffery pulls all the fake tough guy ********. The chance an actual fight breaks out is almost zero.

How does being injured excuse stupidity and getting a key technical?
It was in reference to your 'liability and embarassment' comment like it was a whole season thing. Mitchell was going down after Kunc again after the leg kick and Grill came in. Don't think its unusual to see.

I'm not sure how well it's coming across on tv since I have immediately deleted the last few Home games as soon as I got home but grill is in alot of pain still. About 1 min after entering the game last night he grimaced and grabbed his back. In my opinion he needs to sit at baylor and in KC and get him as healthy as possible for the big tournament. This version of grill isn't gonna get us a W or two in march.

I still don’t blame him. Again, he’s out there thinking he has to fight the battles. He’s not seeing tangible results with the way things are being done.

I think being the hero in the North Carolina game and injuries has completely messed with Grill’s head.
  • At KU, doubling clutching on the game winning 3 and expecting a foul. I don’t expect him to make that shot but just shoot a normal shot.
  • Texas game calling for a timeout for Texas. Very punkish. Think if JBO did that.
  • At WVU, missed layup with 10 seconds left and while the ball was still in play complained to the ref. There was clearly no foul.
  • OSU meltdown. Completely unacceptable.
  • Last night against WVU.
Grill has become a punk which is okay if that is the edge you need to help us win. But instead his inability to control his emotions is costly. Are we losing games directly because of Grill? Probably not but he certainly is not doing much to help us win, especially in clutch situations.

Caleb's tough guy act is embarrassing. He clearly isn't ready physically or mentally to be back on the floor. It's almost too late for him to figure it out, sadly we have no other options at guard.

Lots of over reaction. College players make mistakes. Lots of mistakes. Team is struggling. No weak teams in Big 12.
