2022-23 Twister Sisters Season Thread

It's such a chicken-or-the-egg type situation when you talk about a situation like Maggie's. Her offense has struggled, but she's never been allowed to get in a flow. She'll get a sporadic few minutes here and there and when she does she's parked in the corner on offense. She's attempted 21 shots in 14 games.

Bill hasn't exactly given her much opportunity to find her form and its biting him in the *** now with no depth to rely on.
While I agree that I would like to see her get more time but this year she just has had an off season and the coaches are trying to get the win so you roitate people in to see who is hitting that nite.

ISU stays put in the NET at #14 while OSU bumps up from 43 to 39.

Big 12 NET rankings overall seem to be all over the board.

What happens in practice typically translates to the game. Your argument says that she needs a lot more minutes to magically find her shot. How does that translate to the starters? Players like Diew, Ryan, Donarski and Jones get lots of minutes and their shooting has been woefully inconsistent this year.

In a bit of a continuation of my last response…I’ve been thinking a lot lately about this team. Pre-season picked to win the conference and that was before anyone knew whether Soares would transition to D1 ball. The team as is has THREE All Big 12 players on it. None are playing at the levels they were at last year. If I had to forecast, Jones will be the only one on the first team. Fritz will make the all Freshman team. Ryan and Donarski? Hard to tell. D will likely be on the defensive team. Otherwise there are enough good players that the others "could" fall to honorable mention status. The massive drop off in production by the juniors is a big factor in why this team is losing lots of games they should be winning.

Ryan and Donarski are down two points per game average. Their three point shooting has dropped dramatically (Ryan 41%-37% Donarski 37%-31%). You can go through the stats and find lots of changes from a year ago that are downturns. Then toss in M&M dropping from hitting 46% to 20%. AND M&M is averaging the SAME number of minutes per game this year as she was last year. There has just been a big drop off from our key players this year for whatever reason. I’m sure the coaches wish they could find that reason.

My daughter wants to come to the last home game for her birthday with some friends. Looking to buy GA tickets- what are the ages for the “youth” tickets?
TIA

Just watch when she's in the game. They play pick and roll while she stands in the corner. My point is it's disingenuous to say "she's lost her offense" when she literally is not given a role. Bill has chosen not to put any effort into developing depth and we are seeing how that can effect a team right now.

This is her 5th year on the team and for some reason she seems to have lost her touch. Plus she has a reputation as a shooter so she gets attention when she does get the ball. I would love to see her get that touch back as we go into the most important part of our schedule but to blame the coaching staff is a stretch. As someone who was an off the bench shooter in my high school days the touch can go for no known reason and then come back my hope is hers does.

Agreed, plus we’ve seen and heard this before. Lisa Joens tells anybody listening this is why Aubrey departed - she wanted to “play” but was instructed to stand in the corner. I believe your theory has merit!

Not only their long-range efficiency but Lexi misses a number of layups/ close bank shots.

I am throttling down and hope to win our two home games and give a 50/50 chance at KU (where the J-Hawks are fairly tough).

The tourney might be interesting on a "neutral court" as we've beaten most of the teams this season.

Is what it is, ain't what it ain't, C'est la vie.

Minor quibble, it's her 4th year. She has a COVID to use but just wild speculation from me is that she won't use it.

This strongly hints that MEM isn't planning to return for another year, which is not a surprise given her injury history.

On last week's coaches' show, Bill talked about Morgan and Maggie as if both were done this year.

Who is all done then? Soares, MEM, Morgan, Ashley, Jordao for sure. What do we have, 4 coming in? So it looks like we will pick up a couple in the portal?

Out (5): A. Joens, Kane, Espenmiller-McGraw, Soares, Jordao
In (5): Jackson, K. Joens, Bristow, Brown, Crooks
Assuming this is correct (Kane and MEM leave, as both are likely to do) we have two scholarships open. However, if everyone stays the following year (Ryan, Donarski, Diew, Zingaro) we have no openings that year (zero leaving, two coming in -- Tanke and Wilson). So our best bet would be one-year grad-transfer types. Ideally an experienced post to help out the freshmen (another Soares would be great, but another Jordao would be really good too).

Scholarship chart (I've updated it to assume Kane and MEM are gone):
