I don't think he does. Based on lack of plaything this year, he might be a year 3/4 guy.
Question on Eli King

I'm hopeful that he'll develop and maybe play a roll like Caleb Grill but with more consistent shooting. If not I hope he can find a situation that fits. He seems to be a good teammate based on how he acts on the sidelines.
We bring in two 4star guards in that class plus whatever might shake out in the portal. From what I've watched this season Lipsey and Watson are home runs in last years class. Not seeing it with King. Doesn't seem to have speed or size. Maybe he develops into a great shooter, but I'm questioning whether he'll get much playing time at ISU.
In the new age of the portal I'll be a little surprised if he is here next year. Other than Gophers, though, where would he go? If he were coming here next year as a transfer with essentially these no stats what would the fan reaction here be? It would be not be pretty.
I could google it and I’m sure people would turn up, I guess my point is, it’s not common like it is in football just due to the lack of scholarships available to a basketball team. It happens, but it generally is accepted by both the coach and the player coming in. I’m guessing if Eli wanted to redshirt, TJ would have been fine with it.
SDW redshirted under Fred, that was the only freshman, non-medical redshirt I could think of within the last 20 years at ISU.
That wasn’t the starting lineup he listed, that was the guard rotation. PT will be just as hard, or harder unless he really works himself into a niche 3/D guy or something.
His HS tape showed a lot of athleticism, so hopefully he is working on whatever is keeping him off the floor this year and is able to contribute next year.
Covid year. I think he had 1 at ISU, 1 at UNLV, 2 years (including this year) at ISU, then he still can come back next year if he chooses to I believe.
Is King going to play ahead of him is the question. Hamilton looks good! I was just pointing out competition King's gonna be up against. Next season without any lineup changes I see Lipsey, Grill, and a transfer starting right now. Williams and Watson in that mix leaves King not getting minutes not even throwing Hamilton in there.
IMO TJ could go with a bigger lineup next year with Watson & Biliew playing the 3 spot. So Lipsey, Williams and Grill would be Eli King's competition for 80 or so minutes at the 2 guard spots and some minutes at the 3 if we go small. The wild cards at guard being Grill returning for year 5 and Hamilton's readiness to play.
The obvious question is TJ and staff's view of Eli during practice this year. There is a fine line between playing 10-15 mpg and 0 minutes- just look at Watson's minutes disappear with an eligible/healthy Tre King & Jaz Kunc.
Also, Eli's spot in the playing rotation next year isn't any different than Lipsey or Watson. All have a number of aspects of their games to ensure their spots.
That might be an exaggeration in Lipsey's case, but Tamin main weakness is 3 pt shooting. In Jeremiah William's 2 years at Temple he was a low volume 3 point shooter and made 27% (only 23% his soph year). So for TJ to play both guys at the same time, one will need to become a respectable 3 point shot next year. Otherwise they could split PG minutes.
This year alone Baylor, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, and West Virginia all redshirted a player for non injury related reasons. Kansas State redshirted 3 players also without injuries.

I posted this is another thread. Huggins seems to think a player can play and still redshirt without an injury, based on his comments.
Size? I would agree with. I'm sure he'll add some muscle, but he's not going to get taller. Speed? He's probably one of the faster/quicker guys on the team. Look at his football tape. He's a great athlete. I think the biggest question is how well he can develop his shot, because I don't see a scenario where he's taking over major minutes at the point. Edit: actually the more likely scenario to get noticed and carve out minutes in this program is to turn himself into an elite defender that could also grab a few rebounds from the guard position.
Where might he go if he leaves? His other P6 offers I believe were Iowa, MN, and Marquette. I can't remember if Wisconsin was in the mix early as well. I can't speak to their situations well enough to say whether any of them would be options this go round. He was headed to Iowa before TJ showed up at the last minute. I would guess he would be a UNI or Drake type target if he decides to move on. If Campbell gets word that he's leaving the bball program, he should probably reach out and see if Eli has had a change of heart about football. He was a more sought after football recruit than he was for basketball, but I haven't heard anything to tell me that bball isn't still his preference.
