Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

I'm sure there's room at the inn for Oregon and Washington if they agree to place nice.
Yeah I doubt they would get turned away, the Washington crowd might never go for it from a political perspective but they would obv play nice. The only school that seems not to understand it’s place is Texas.

Seems like a pattern. The Cowboys and the Cows like to talk about history and set high expectations, but not do **** since Emmitt left town.

They suck the air out of the room and then flop.

My company is based in California and NONE of the people I work with care to watch the Pac-12 confernce. They will watch ISU over the local options as they see my passion and are curious.

Their interests are:

1) Pro Sports
2) Outdoor Adventures

10) Pac-10 Sports

I do think the passion of B1G members has a chance to engage the locals with USC and UCLA. But that won't help the leftovers in the conference

Yeah the pac is in major trouble and I’m legit not sure how this plays out. In theory the corner schools have a home but Oregon and Washington are probably the biggest brands. Would the Big12 add 6 more schools? What happens to the left over 4? Just a major unknown.

Wonder if it’s even possible for the ACC to add schools since geography is being thrown out the window a bit.
The other reason not to add SMU and SDSU is the Big 12 figures it has 4 or 6 more spots open at the most and you don’t want to waste them on those schools, if it is still possible to get the 4 corners and OU-UW.

That statement makes me believe that once we had our rights deal locked up, the PAC 12, in their arrogance, think their value should be above ours. I think this is turning in to the PAC trying to save face after pissing on us in the past.

Probably some of that, but more likely we are just in an environment where, with two conferences seriously cashing in on TV dollars, the other ones aren't easily able to evaluate where they stand. There was always risk in Kliakoff's stance on these negotiations, and how he handled them publicly. Reality bites.

Another reason to get the TV rights done early, by waiting PAC is running into strong headwinds, some of which is caused by ESPN probably not wanting to go out on the limb since Disney wants to unload it.

The big 12 has zero reason to take SMU and that would be a massive mistake. So far the new commish has been awesome, doubt he would make an unforced error like that.

I'd guess Yormark is either just trying to get info from SMU (infer what Pac is doing via what SMU reps have to say) or else feigning interest to make PAC jump at it in what will still look like a desperate move. None of the important PAC schools will want SMU and these rumors will probably push them closer to the door than keep them on board.

PAC really sounds like they are up against the wall. youhatetoseeit.gif

I think Im at the point where I just want Arizona and Arizona State. Oregon and Washington don't want to be anywhere but the Big 10. Utah's hate boner **** with BYU is annoying and they've been pulling the we're too good for you card. Oregon State, Washington State, Cal, and Stanford aren't adding anything. Colorado bailed once and they don't have much going for them to be a good add back.

Take the Zonas and wait for the ACCs eventually raid to come

If Utah fans are to be believed then at least one school wants SMU

If OR and WA bring in more money for the rest of the B12, I say you add them. It's no secret that everyone would jump at a B10 or SEC invite, so they're not any different than every other school. They wouldn't be able to throw their weight around to get their way like Texas has over the past 25 years because there's nowhere else they could legitimately go. They can pout or stomp their feet as much as they want, but it doesn't change anything.

The only possible play I see for the PAC to take somebody like SMU would be that SMU is willing to take a massive paycut for years, probably below what they even get from the AAC.

There still is some value for the PAC to maybe get into DFW market due to old TV media and to have a central time zone presence. Let's say it raises their total media contract value from $250 to $270M. SMU (who currently gets $7m/year in the AAC) takes $5m/year for 5 years, then become full members after that. Even in a case similar to that, which I think is optimistic for the PAC, only nets the existing teams $1.5M extra per year for the first five years.

I think for even the PAC to pick up G5 schools they would have to be in big markets and have some decent value in terms of inventory (most notably time zone expansion) AND those schools would have to be so desperate to get into a "power" league that they are willing to take a paycut for quite a few years from even what they get from their G5 league.

I guess I see there as a tiny window where a PAC expansion with MAYBE a couple specific G5 teams MIGHT be worth considering. I see no scenarios where it makes sense for the Big 12 to even consider any more G5 teams.

And listening to these old media dinosaurs talk about value of schools and conferences is hilarious. They've been so wrong.

I’d take Colorado too. And then hope for Louisville, Pitt, or some FL schools from the ACC.

I dont hate that straigically at all. I just don't trust them to do things and vote in the conferences best interest. They cant sabatodge it, but idk. Keep potential toxicity out. That Big 10 invite may never come and they're gonna keep doing things to keep themsevles available until they get it.

I just feel like the less parties involved who only care about themselves the better. They're already showing their hand with this PAC 12 deal right now
