49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

We want to blame Manning for 2021, but in reality, in 3 of our losses, the offense was handicapped by inept special teams (Baylor) or defense that got exploited (tech and WVU). Hall, Purdy and the offense did enough to win those games. 10-2 and a spot in the CCG wouldn’t have been a disappointing season.

Not saying Manning was good, just that it’s revisionist history to blame the entirety of the disappointment on the offense.
Manning didn’t make Breece fumble at his own 1 yd line, or Brock under throw a ball that our wr was also mugged on with no call.

I mean the Dolphins have quite a bit of talent on offense and Skyler looked like poo a lot today
I had this exact thought watching Miami today. How badly do they wish they had used their late round draft pick on Brock to be a backup instead of Skylar? Clearly a talented offense, just need some leadership.

San Fran was the perfect landing spot for him, but there are a whole lot of places where he would have had similar success.

Been listening to some national radio shows today and you are really starting to hear more push back on the Purdy love. Not a majority by any means, but there is a certain segment of the sports world that just can't stand everyone having a good time with a story and feels a need to **** all over it. They are definitely getting louder and you can tell they are really starting to invest in his failure so they can say "I told you so!" Hopefully Purdy can keep the hype train rolling all the way to the Super Bowl!
If this is their angle, the odds are ridiculously stacked in their favor and it’s one of the most preposterous positions ever taken in sports.

By my count, there are less than 35 quarterbacks who have ever one a Super Bowl. Given the thousands of people who have played that position and the thousands more than never even sniffed the field, you’re already a statistical anomaly to even go deep in the playoffs. Let alone get all the way there and then win. So it’s about the easiest and douchiest take ever to say “that rookie QB selected with the last pick in the draft isn’t good enough to win it all”.

To that point, if that’s their standard then even crazier. It’s not as though people celebrating this Purdy story were predicting a year ago he was going to be in this position and lead the 49ers to a super bowl victory.

I just don’t get the hate. Its literally insane how anyone as a sports far can not appreciate what has happened the last 8 weeks.

if they end up going with Lance next year, they will probably keep Purdy as the backup considering how favorable his contract is.
Yeah, he gets paid pennies so they’ll keep him regardless. The sad thing is that if Lance can’t perform in the 49er system, that means he likely couldn‘t do much of anything anywhere else.

You would think so, but can’t have two cocks in the hen house.
I don’t see how you start Lance after this. Brock is playing with house money right now. Worst case scenario he is Finishes 7-1 (If you count Miami game) with a passer rating over those 8 games that would be best in the league and his only loss in the playoffs against a 12-5 Dallas team or a rematch against Brady (how many people have beat him twice in a year)?

I think Lance has way more to prove at this point if you set expectations aside and base on results

How do you figure? Lance sat on the bench the entire season last year behind Jimmy G. He came into the season as the guy. Wasn't getting it done in the preseason and wasn't good in the first couple of regular season games before the injury. He has a LONG way to go before he is as good as Brock. Let alone better.
My bad. For some reason (ignorance) i thought they were both drafted this year

I don’t disagree. But when ego and money are involved nothing surprises me.

Let’s not forget Kyle supposedly wanted Mac Jones and Lynch wanted Lance. That isn’t confirmed of course but if Lynch wants it proven that Lance isn’t the guy that is how Purdy isn’t the starter next year.

That’s a fair point. Those guys call the shots and it doesn’t always seem rational.

I'm not sure about this, some QB-coach combinations just click (Reid/Mahomes) I wonder if that is the case with Shanahan/Purdy.
Either way I'm sure glad he is succeeding.

I don't think Purdy is as talented as some of the other QBs who played this weekend, but I think an argument could be made that he played the best out of the QBs that played this weekend. He is in a great situation with the 49ers, but what he has done is amazing.
