49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

It took Montana 11 years before having a season average passer rating higher than Brock is averaging this year. And he only did it twice in his career and one of those seasons he played 1 game and threw 126 yards. Brock had the highest passer rating in the NFL right now.
This is not an argument against Brock, he has been great considering everything he and the 49ers have been through this year.

But the game of football is completely different now, I can't imagine what Jerry Rice could do in today's NFL where there he can't be touched after 5 yards. He would be impossible to cover, he was impossible to cover then and you could grab, move him. Montana's passer rating is only relevent to compare him to his peers in his era. The game if football is totally different and todays QBs get a much better world to work in.

That said, Brock has been great, has room to get better as he is still adjusting to the game. If he can make a run/look good in the playoffs he should be a starter next season. In the NFL you physical tools can only get you so far, the head on the shoulders that makes the difference.

Passer rating has been inflating for years. QB's are generally more accurate than they have ever been and Ints as a whole have gone down as rules have changed to favor offense. Not really the greatest way to compare QBs from different eras.

Purdy couldn’t have asked for a better and easier path the the NFC championship game. Seattle then the Vikings or Giants. Hope for a Philadelphia loss, and then you get a home game for a trip to the Super Bowl.

if Giants win they will get Dallas/Tampa

but point still stands- they'll get the home game.

Just like the US Dollar, there has been substantial inflation of QB statistics as the defensive rules have become more stringent, to the extent that quarterbacks are coddled by NFL standards. That being said, if you compare Brocks performance relative to contemporary QBs he's been startlingly effective.

Looking at Montana's teammates in the 80's Super Bowls:
1981 a mediocre running attack, decent TE (former Ram Charlie Young) and decent WR's (Clark and Solomon). It was the WCO that carried the team.
1984 the receiving talent was similar but a much better rushing attack (Craig and Wendell Tyler)
1988, 89 and 94 offenses were the 'so many weapons' era.

Welcome Old 9er. If you're truly old you'll like my 9er fun fact, I'm much younger but I went to the same elementary school and high school as John Harty.

He is top 10 in jersey sales for the year. I’m the entire league.

Are we sure that is the correct interpretation or is he 9th for that last week? Is there more info on sales numbers in total to support 9th for the entire season?

Host of “The Gym” on KGYM 1600 in CR from 3 to 4 today said Purdy won’t win NFC ROTY…. and that he basically is just benefiting from having Kittle, McCaffrey, Samuel, Ayuik, etc.

Pretty much didn’t give Purdy any credit at all.
Stop listening to that glorified tavern hawk moron. He has zero original to say, and takes forever to say it. So on top of being a "go hox!" Idiot, he just isnt very good at his job.

The worst is when he will say he is not biased and doesnt hate ISU, but then will just absolutely trash them.

I gave up on those fools years ago.
