Don't know how deep it is where you are right now. but when growing up on the farm learned that unless the frost has really dug in like 6-10".....a snowfall of 4-8 or more will do good because it will be like a blanket and the warmer underlying ground will thaw out an inch or two at the surface thus helping the ground absorb some of the melt.
No.......it's not like wide open ground in the summer. But right now it's better than absolutely nothing.
And I know it's no fun to push or shovel......but the more cover you get now the better.
Yes, the snow cover insulates the ground, but the harder the ground freezes, the better for compaction breakage though. Therefore I prefer less coverage and a good hard freeze to get the ground in the best shape possible. 2012 was a massive drought, worse than we have now, at least in my parts, and by the time May 1st of 2013 came, everything was overloaded with moisture due to non stop rains.
Definitely appears that we are making a turn towards the winter cold with roughly average chances of precipitation.
I make a motion that all future weather casts shall be done solely in emojis. At least then maybe my kids will understand they may need to wear a coat in December
Local radio station is saying up to 7inches of snow by Friday daybreak.
