49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

So is the QB Collective, Sage, the Campbell staff, his high school coach, or his family responsible for getting Brock drafted? Probably a little of each, definitely Brock himself making some good choices.

This is a good debate on the caliber of ISU’s QB coaching. If I had to guess Gordon and crew do the requisite coaching on mechanics, technique, etc but nothing special. Then you take a kid like Purdy who was a prolific QB at a large high school and had a lot of personal training coming up and the ISU coaches may have purposefully decided not to tinker. Hard to blame them given Brock’s auspicious start.

I think the big area where Brock needed more coaching in college was avoiding the big mistake. Plays like the batted pass vs Clemson, the spinning pick 6 at TCU, the strip sack scoop and score at OU. Those are a guy trying too hard or being reckless rather than issues with mechanics or technique. Hopefully Brock learned from those mistakes at ISU and avoids them with the Niners.

IMO college football puts more emphasis on recruiting over coaching even though there are a lot of developmental gains to be made at that level. In the NFL the talent is already there and coaching matters more in the margin even though there is probably less individual improvement to be made. And some guys just mentally or physically are freaks and can become a completely different player than they were in college all by themselves.

Tank Sports did this video on Brock eight months ago. All of the tape that they use is from Brock's ISU games. Tank Sports is definitely ahead of everyone else in seeing the potential in Brock. We will get a lot of good mentions today in the 49ers vs Bucs game. Love it! Go Brock and 49ers! Go Cyclones!

Lots of talk on NFL Countdown this morning about Brock and Iowa State. Samantha Ponder was talking up Ames and Jack Trice stadium on game days.

I have been a staunch Purdy supporter and defender. But this is way too much hype. He plays the vaunted Bucs D Sunday and he's in for an eye opener.

Hoping he avoids the hype and plays within himself. This is going off the rails

I’m hoping the game plan allows for him to play within himself. There is so much talent there.

I know he’s a hawk but this is fantastic stuff.

It really doesn't bother me when athletes from either school does well in the pros as long as they are decent people outside of work. To get paid millions to do something you love we should all be so lucky.
