X, Most Targets in NCAA

In an attempt to find how down our TE targets are from last year I discovered the X is the most targeted receiver in college football.

86 targets on the year.
Him and Rashee Rice, SMU, are the only receivers averaging more that 14 targets a game. The next highest is 11.8 a game.
It’s a hard stat to find but Kolar had 96 total targets last year for reference.

We clearly need to be able to run the ball but this much usage for X is ridiculous.

It's hard to tell on screen if they're open but it seems he needs to be getting the ball to Noel and Stanley (even Shaw) more. We seem to have good success when we do. Seems like as the game goes along Dekkers gets even more locked on to X

When the QB is crapping down his leg, of course he is going to his safety valve. Just needs to make sure it’s not in a clutch situation, we have seen first hand 2 games in a row what happens when we need a first down late in a game and X is targeted.

Guy is a stud and a game changer, the rest of our recievers are very pedestrian, not surprising they are force feeding him targets. Who else is the defense suppose to be scared of?

I am not sure I agree with this. Receivers are not getting open soon enuf given the time he has. He is not good at scrambling or rolling out (maybe plays are not so designed on the latter) to buy time. I DO think he is very tough at handling the ball. No turnovers and still lost the game.

You’re right, until Dekkers gets his eyes downfield, no one. Stanley was open on a couple of verticals and Noel had some of deep in routes that he found the soft spot in the zone, and that’s just off the top of my head, but Dekkers doesn’t give it time to develops even when he isn’t pressured.

He panics and looks for #8 or the RB when he gets rushed.

When the time is there, and he's able to do what he can do, he throws a nice ball about anywhere on the field.

We don't play enough WR's and are adament to have a TE in the game + Jared Rus to take up space and not move fast (as harsh as that sounds)

X is also targeted too much b/c we don't try Stanley, Noel, or anyone else to go deep at WR enough.

That only happens because he's exhausted at the end of the game from being the whole offense.

Someone else needs to step up. Give Gaines or Essex a chance if the older guys arent getting the job done.

Part of football, particularly late in the game, is taking pride in performing late. Exhaustion goes out the window on a routine catch and seniors should love that moment.

That wasn't the sole reason for the loss but was certainly not a moment of growth either.

He dropped a TD in the first half. Dropped a TD last week too. He's still our best offensive player though so hard to blame him too much.

That was about a routine of catch you can have. Most people here could have made it.

Stansbury asked this very question to CMC in the post game presser..... but not surprisingly at all, didn't really get an answer. CMC got a little snippy as usual and said something to the affect that he's going to try getting the ball to our best players.

That's fine... but it can also be very detrimental to the team for your QB to only look at 1 guy all the time too. Lesson #1... don't question CMC on strategy.... he doesn't like that.

He has multiple times he has had a receiver open and waits until the hole closes up to throw it. His vision is really bad. Our offense has a multitude of issues that all make each other worse. Bad vision leads to bad routes because you can’t rely on him scanning the field.

I’ll have to listen back but that’s a BS answer. The goal is to give your best players a chance to make plays.
