Willis McGahee hit vs. Cardinals

The N.F.L is a very organized league, with smart rules that have been modified and are well thought out, but is there any way to avoid a hit like that? I mean i know he isnt in an extremely serious condition but still a big hit like that, that leaves an all star N.F.L running back down for at least 10 minutes and the most fierce offense eating linebacker in the N.F.L in the form of Ray Lewis praying and pleading for it not to be serious and not derail the career of willis, is a pretty vicious hit. But while Ray was praying i did see Big Ben come over and wish him luck with a concerned look on his face, and if you might recall, Big Ben took a vicious hit in the season finale against the disappointing Browns that was similar to the McGahee hit. There needs to be some solution to the hits that leave guys down like that, but i dont know if it can be changed. The N.F.L has had and will probably always have hits like this, but i for one wouldnt want to take a helmet 2 helmet going at full speed with an oncoming corner trying to hit you so hard youll be seeing stars.:spinny::wacko:

I would expect a pretty stiff fine as this was a helmet to helmet hit. Just watching it in slow motion and seeing his head snap back, was painful enough.

Well if you want to put blame on a helmet to helmet then it would have to be willis' fault. Clark clearly dropped his sholder to make the hit, and to me this hit was no one's fault, just a freak of nature and bad timing from both parties. One that I don't think can be eliminated. Clark made a clean hit, Willis made a clean bull rush to try and gain yards, what are you going to do about that.

The only thing you can do is say there is no tackling above the waist, then at that point it's really not tackle football anymore is it.

I doubt it... Although his helmet did hit, he lead with his shoulder pads. When hitting somebody at that speed, its hard to avoid all helmet to helmet contact. When watching in slow-mo, the defensive player lead with his shoulders, not a spear.

It wasn't helmet to helmet, Clark led with his shoulder, and McGahee put his head down at the very last second. The hit was violent, but it was also clean. What I found worse than the hit was the Steelers "music guy" playing CCR and Santana while McGahee was being strapped to a gurney. Down on the Corner is a good song, but probably not one that should be played when somebody might be paralyzed on the field.

Speaking of big hits did anyone see that hit Brandon Hunley had on a KU TE last year? Too bad we managed to choke this one too.

not the best song choice but there shouldnt probably of been any music at all

Right, but at the same time, you have to come up with some way to keep the crowd into the game. It was an almost 10 minute stoppage in play, and I can imagine that it seemed like forever to the people in the stands. At that point in the game, I would imagine all the concession stands were closed and that they'd stopped selling beer, so the music guy had to do something to keep the crowd into the game. Tough spot to be in.

That was a great hit! I think it's in the highlight vid before the games too.
Speaking of big hits, did anybody see USC's free safety (i think #2) hit that PSU player in the rose bowl?! That was huge, too.

This hit was huge. Taylor Mays' hit in the Rose Bowl.
He took out 2 players. This hit was an obvious spear, I believe.

Ya Taylor Mays? I saw that. His teamate like almot held the PSU player for the hit.

I just thought it was kinda cool we were on the other side of a big hit.

Taylor Mays i believe, he is probably the best safety in the nation, hes like 6' 2-3 and just a plain beast. Every time i see USC play i get kindof a chill thinking about all the possibilties that might unfold in the next years for cyclone football. The jerseys have the same feel, we mightve stolen the look from the trojans but oh well
