I basically keep track of all the games going on via the Score app on my phone. If a game piques my interest at any point, I'll track it down to watch for a bit. That sort of viewing is only enhanced by streaming games since so many more are available than there were even a decade ago. But that's also the problem. Unless you're on a major network, the only people watching are those who will track that game down. As a user of Hulu Live, perusing that guide isn't any different than cable. And it will continue to only show the main channels, I'd wager.

Doubt Gonzaga would have much interest. They already get unequal revenue share in their conference and risk losing their elite status if they join a tougher conference. Honestly, would joining a tougher conference put them in a better position for success? I don't think so.

Yeah they'd be toward the top of the conference but the competition is so tough they'd definitely accumulate losses. Right now they're basically guaranteed a 1 or 2 seed

I would not be surprised if Amazon eventually develops a "linear" package similar to YTTV and Hulu which includes their Prime programming. They certainly have the resources to do so.

If I can open an streaming Ap on my Roku with my voice, seems like its just a matter of time before I can use my voice to select a specific program. Maybe that's already available on interfaces other than Roku.

Not to sure someone won't come up with a TV remote screen to navigate between programs using voice or push. Heck, it could even be a phone app.

Basketball doesn't take a lot of funding and without a football presence I don't think they would add much to the big12 from a media dollar perspective. There is also the point to be made that they are a 1 seed every year right now which wouldn't happen in the big12. Not to mention the insane travel. Doesn't make sense for either party although the Big 12 basketball would be insane with them

So how many ISU fans (or even fans at other Big12 schools) purchase ESPN+ to watch Big12 tier 3 games? What about college football fans in the other P5 conferences? Are they likely to purchase ESPN+ to just be able to watch a random Big12 game?

Personally, I would rather have the Big12 tier 3 games be on Amazon than ESPN+. AND I BUY ESPN+ for 7 months a year to watch ISU. Having Big12 Tier 3 contests on Amazon or Apple gives access to casual sports fans who buy Amazon or Apple+ to watch non-sport programming, but would also be able to catch Big12 games.

I also think have a tier 2 game of the week on Amazon to bring in a greater audience might be the draw for Amazon, Apple, etc. to pay more money- but still not get the elite Big12 games each week.

I get ESPN+ and Disney+ for the kids included with Hulu, so that is great for me. Personally I like ESPN+, it has been great and better than Cyclones.tv by far. I get a ton of content and actually watch a lot of the other games like soccer, volleyball and women's basketball, now that I never watched before.

I have had Amazon Prime for damn near as long as it has been around, there shipping has went down hill, and really don't watch a lot of the streaming, except for a couple shows. So if it were to go there I would also be fine.

Apple+, Paramount+, Peacock, Discovery+, etc, I either have or have had some times, for certain shows etc. Not really a big deal.

What is good about ESPN+ is that all the tier 3, is on there, and how well it works with Hulu, the games show up on Hulu so you dont have to switch back and forth. What would make it worse if people had to buy several streaming services to get all the content, ie Amazon, Apple+, ESPN+, because they split it up. Some would do it, or already have it. But it would make it a hassle, but some would not want to pay all the extra fees.

Someday hopefully we will be able to pick each network we want and pay only what we want. As the streaming services like Youtube and Hulu are getting just like cable/satellite pay way more, for a bunch of channels you don't want. I would rather pay a few dollars for each channel or group of channels from same company, that I want than pay a lot for a bunch I don't want.

Its getting closer to that, with these streams, For instant Discovery+ you get all the Discovery owned nets for I think 6$, plus bonus content, I get it free with my wireless so dont know exact price.

I have a tv with built in Roku. If I say College Football with a voice search, it'll bring up games that are on YTTV, ESPN+, Prime, and anything else such as if one was on Peacock? And I can switch through those?

Someone mentioned spinning the dial (who is old enough to have actually done this? I am!) With streaming, you have to know which of several dials (ESPN, Fox, Peacock, et al) to spin in the first place...

And yes I am old enough to have had to spin the dials, both VHF and UHF. Remember my parents getting their first remote TV. It had the Original "clicker" remote. Channel up and down. Think it was a 13 inch for their bedroom. Fancy stuff. Still had the old console in the family room at that time we had to turn the dial for. Then we got a 19" on a stand, still with dials.

LOL, Now I have an 85" in my cave.

You cannot, you have to be on the individual platform to see what is available on each one. While this is the dream most streaming services have these gated off on purpose.

Sure, you can have a guide to check each platform, but navigating them isn't seemless. Having some on platform A, some on B, and some on C is not functional for the regular person. Having multiple devices going is what I fall back on. Even having YTTV on the main tv and my laptop for different games is pretty standard.

There are some search capabilities in both Roku and Apple TV, but they’re very lacking. It helps if you know what game you want, but then it’s a very small shortcut. I want an integrated guide like DTV had. Right now I have to plan what games by setting a game start alert in the ESPN app to remind me. Doing that for the 6-10 games I want to watch on a Saturday is tedious.

Oh it looks like you don't have that channel, would you like to add it for $$? Something like that. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure my fire TV shows popular shows/movies/TNF on the Home Screen regardless of app it’s on. I usually spend little to no time on the Home Screen though.

I think basketball is going to be more influential towards the value of a school or conference's media rights going forward. Basketball inventory should have more value in a streaming world --

(1.) Diehard fans are the ones who are going to pony up money for streaming services, and they are going to want to watch their basketball teams as much as their football teams.

(2.) Streaming services are going to need something to keep subscribers from developing a seasonal pattern of picking the subscription up in the fall and dropping it down in January. Basketball stretches things out into March and April, which might mean more people keep the service all year.

(3.) There aren't many marquis programs left in football or men's basketball that haven't already signed up with one of the power conferences. Gonzaga basketball might be the last one.

Yes, the travel would be insane for them (not that it wouldn't for U$C and UCLA and hey they signed up for it for Big Ten money and they were making a lot more in the Pac-12 than Gonzaga is making in the WCC. Yes, the Zags can mint a high seed every season now, but that might change in the future as the "power" keeps concentrating in the high-major conferences. U$C had an easier runway to the CFP dominating the Pac-12 but they decided, again, the check had too many zeroes on it to refuse the Big Ten.

And all the channels maybe more than YTTV. Live and on demand. And can use voice control although I don't use that feature.

What would make Gonzaga basketball different?

There are some sports that are different. Olympic sports that are not required by the conference, we bring in affiliates to fill out the conference slate.

But for certain sports that are required. We are not going to bring in affiliates for sports these required to full members. Therefore we have a full slate of teams already for Football, Basketball etc. You would get to a situation like the Big East had and things would get messy real quick.
