My least favorite assumption people make is when they see someone in a position of wealth and power repeatedly show that they are dumb is “you don’t get in a position like that unless you are smart.”
Most of the time that is true. But sometimes dumb luck, timing, ruthlessness and faking it can get you pretty far. Every time he speaks in public he says something idiotic. He is either ******* dumb or just absolutely can’t handle any adversity at all, and his reaction is make up stupid wild ****.
The guy (Kliavkoff) was in over his head from the start.
To be fair, he came into a crap situation with the PAC that wasn't his doing. But now he's just flailing around watching the ship sink, and like so many these days, just venting ridiculous conspiracy theories.
It's funny/sad/pathetic all at once.
Not going to argue with that, but you can look especially dumb by publicly representing the views of a coalition of multiple interested parties (particularly when they aren't living in reality).
I think I could throw a lawn dart into a random crowd of people and hit somebody that could come into a really difficult situation and not flat out say idiotic stuff pretty much every time they speak in public.

A co-op I dealt with had this for their CEO. Would get connections and fall upward. Wanted to look good and always lead discussions but would say the absolute wrong thing and start a shitstorm. He would then get even more flustered. I called him incompetent, the board defended him. He got fired 18 months after my first interaction with him due to screw ups.
So, the additional Big 10 travel cost is going to cost UCLA $50-60M? And then adding one more like Stanford is going to save them that?
At this point it's just embarrassing for these guys and Kliavkov.
Wilner has never seemed very bright, but at least seems to have a few moments of clarity and dips his toe in reality. Canzano is just living in pure delusion and can't even construct a rational thought.

Was hesitant to give those two a click, but listened anyway because of the guest.
Kliavkoff kissed their ass so much that it was disgusting. I can now understand how Wilner/Conzano just mouthpiece whatever the conference spoon feeds them. I felt like I was watching the two guys getting completely played like a violin.

I suspect Kliavakoff is a smart guy, but he is used to playing a winning hand. Playing a losing hand is a lot harder. I mean, he has to say SOMETHING to make the PAC12 look viable. I think I would have gone with "more money, yes, but after travel costs its a lot less money - is it really worth leaving century old rivals and friends for a little more cash in order to play Purdue and Maryland?" That thought narrows the gap between conferences in the mind of the listener, and makes USCLA look like traitorous sphincters.
It's an insult to UCLA to think they didn't crunch the numbers before joining the Big10 about potential travel costs for Olympic sports.
IMO its more likely Olympic Sports will never be part of Big10. Not only USC & UCLA but all schools if we see Super Conferences (16+ teams) created. Have FB, MBB, VB and WBB compete in one conference and then create geographic based conferences for all other sports.
IMO the key to further realignment is the specifics for the 12 team playoff. If the Big10 and SEC are able to reduce the number of automatic bids from 6- we could see more consolidation.
The other possibility I have seen in the media is the Big10 & SEC getting twice the playoff money as the Big12, Pac12 & ACC. That could easily be $10M more annually/schoolto be in Big10/SEC vs Big12, Pac12 & ACC.

Very common in the cooperative world. A very vocal prominent one has tanked everything he’s touched yet is the best self promoter I’ve ever seen. Board loves him, industry roles their eyes at all times and is just waiting for the oncoming fail upward ahead of created implosion left behind for others.
They typically over perform in the Red River Shoot Out too. There are a lot of years where OU should have just rolled Texas.
