Game Thoughts SEMO

Hunter’s throws look effortless. A flick of the wrist. Some of those screen passes looked like a short stop throwing to first. He was practically side arming them.

It’s a HUGE drop off at linebacker. Pursuit was straight trash by that unit. The secondary was better than I expected though. Probably should have had about 4 picks.

Was it windy? Were we intentionally kicking short? Or do we once again have a kickoff guy that can’t kick it into the end zone.

I like our chances next week, but until Campbell proves me wrong and actually finally beats iowa, I’m going to assume it’s going to be a loss.

He's not Aaron Rodgers, but that flick of the wrist and roping the ball is very A.R.esque.

Game thread said was windy but otherwise kicks were good.

No missed PATs too.

I was very satisfied with today’s win and Iowa’s struggles, but still don’t feel confident about next week.
The first thing that ISU needs to do is not give the game away. They have made it way too easy for the Hawk the last few games. And for heavens sake, when Iowa throws the ball right to you, catch it.

SDSU caught a pick today. If they can do it, so can we.

Redshirt freshman LB Myles Mendeszoon was credited with five tackles. That‘s a pretty encouraging stat line for a underclassman. To be perfectly honest, I do not recall hearing a lot about Myles during training camp. Anyone familiar with his game?

Trevon Howard made some good plays as a true Freshman
One big freshman mistake though. On a fairly deep pass, he was watching the ball and moving in for the interception. But he misjudged it, the ball went right through both hands, and just kind of fell into the SEMO receiver's arms who didn't even see it coming. In my view from right behind him, I felt like he was too nonchalant about it. It was an easy interception if he had moved into position sooner. Instead he just casually slid in front of the receiver like he wanted to time it with when the ball got there.

He kicked at least 3 into the end zone (all going south with a decent wind at his back). He wasn’t even close to the end zone when he was kicking into the wind.

I don’t think he has the leg Mevis had last year, but it wasn’t terrible. We have a kickoff guy who can get it to the end zone…sometimes.

I thought the same thing about N-Stanley in '19, then he decided to have mobility all of sudden, for one game.
Problem is they always drop the linebackers in coverage. Leaving the middle of the field always open. Need take that away against Iowa who can’t throw it down the field.

"Didn't see any of the game and only heard to very end. Can someone comment on the pass defense? It seems like they gave up a lot of yard today. I am assuming we had a lot of subs in there at points of the game."

19 of 38 and 5.8 yards per pass. Early on we focused on the run and they completed a bunch of short passes. They did have two passes of over 30 yards. One was a very nice 41 yard catch over double coverage where the two Iowa State defenders kind of took each other out of the play.

Dekkers throws the ball better than I would have imagined. He literally flicks it but has so much zip on it. I can see why he got so much hype!
Two of his six incomplete passes could have been caught. Wouldn't have been easy catches but the ball was right where it needed to be.

You put things on tape for other teams to prepare for, especially when you play a significantly lesser opponent. They might run this again later in the year, but don't be surprised if you see the same action and instead of a screen it’s a wheel route or something similar.

Some people can’t understand your point because they don’t understand football as much as they think they do

for us folks. He belongs. He looked fantastic.
- Jihrehl: so happy for him, over 100 yds and showed some burst in second half. Although against Iowa I think we need to throw to set up the run.
Jihrehl's run around the right left end for about 20, getting down to the 1 yd line, with about 13' left in the game, was one of the best runs I've seen in a while. Very elite that run, and able to stop on a dime on the sideline, then go for about 10 more. Amazing. Great to let him have the 1 yard run for the TD to get to 35, on the next play.

Kid is a gamer and you can tell he has the talent. Really hoping he can have a great year!

Edit: meant LEFT end

Will is getting double teamed constantly, get used to it, there will be lots of games this year we hear very little from him, won't be his fault, it's just reality, he's chewing up double trans a lot.
