49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

According to the fist post, it's the 49ers own pre-season videos. The Chiefs have something similar called The Franchise.
Players have to be on the 53 man today to be put on IR-designated to return. Otherwise they are on IR all season. The Chiefs are doing that with one of their TEs. He will be on the roster today and then put on IR tomorrow so they can re-sign one of the players they cut today.
Based on Shanahan's comment that they would've kept Purdy at #2 had Jimmy not come back, I think this means they're keeping him. If they think they have a guy that fits their system, that don't want to lose him to waivers/P-squad and get popped by another team.
Which is really even more incredible about all this. Amazing and awesome for him to make a 53 man as Mr. Irrelevant. But for your HC, who is very well respected in the league, to say that about you?? That, to me, speaks more than just volumes. It screams serious respect.
With Shanahan's comments and Jimmy G's new contract, I would not be shocked in the slightest if the 49ers shop Jimmy around all year with the intent that Brock is the long term backup for Lance. I get the sense that the new contract for Garoppolo was purely to block him from being able to sign with Seattle.
There's been reports of Lance struggling or at least isn't as far along as they had hoped, so Jimmy G is an insurance policy for them just in case Lance stumbles out the gate. If he doesn't struggle, they shop him hard and Brock becomes next man up.
Works for Jimmy G too. He has a full no trade clause, so the 49ers could only trade him to a team he agrees to. The can't just dump him off to whoever.
Whenever a contender loses a starter, they'll be in the Jimmy G sweekstakes.

Jimmy G has a no trade clause in his new contract, so any shopping they do would have to be with his blessing.
I am betting Brock will ONE DAY not only play but will start for an NFL team. Even up.
Easy there. I think its a unique situation that lead to a potential 2, and it didn't even pan out. He's on a team though and that is great.

I'd say good chance Jimmy still gets dealt when a couple QBs prove they stink or get injured.

Let’s pump the brakes here. Brock was great in Ames but I still say best case scenario is he has a Sage Rosenfels type of career when he sticks around for a decade as a backup and has a spot start here and there. It’d be cool to see him become a starter someday but I’m not convinced it’s in the cards for the kid.
