MLB: Henderson and Rice Elected to the Hall

Must have been a slow year.
jk

Rice never struck me as a no doubter but his numbers and his stature during his best years make him a HOFer in my opinion.

Oh, and I can't WAIT for Rickey's speech!

Rickey is going to tell you all about Rickey.

Truth be told, I met him a couple times, and he may be my favorite modern era baseball player. That doesn't mean we can't have a few laughs at his expense.

100% Injury Rate: The definitive Rickey Henderson

I hope you clicked the above link, it is worth your time.

I think he is the last player of his type we will see for quite a while. Supposedly he had a thing with his eyes where he could see from second base to home without having to move them, where each eye could work independently.

Rickey is awesome.

They justify it as Mickey didn't go in with all of the votes. Seaver didn't go in with all of the votes. Rickey isn't going to either.

It's stupid.

I'm probably in the minority, but I wouldn't have voted for Henderson for that exact reason. Baseball has a richer history than any other sport. If the all-time greats couldn't get into the HOF with a unanimous vote, Henderson shouldn't either. It's not like those couple dozen voters have any impact on whether he makes the HOF.

What happens if to many people think that way and a sure fire HOFer doesn't get in because of it.

I think the vote should be Does Rickey Henderson belong in the HOF? Yes or No.

Not OK Ruth got in with so many votes so I'm not going to vote for Henderson because he might get more votes then Ruth.

He gets in next year?

I look at voting as a measure of greatness. Is Ricky Henderson the greatest MLB player ever? If not, he shouldn't be the first one to reach the HOF with unanimous support.

i forget what year, but the A's were playing Toronto in the playoffs. Henderson beat them all by himself. he was one of my favorites to watch. glad he doesn't have to wait for "next year"

"13) San Diego GM Kevin Towers was trying to contact Rickey at a nearby hotel. He knew Henderson always used fake names to avoid the press, fans, etc. He was trying to think like Rickey and after several attempts; he was able to get Henderson on the phone.

Rickey had checked in under Richard Pryor."

Simply wow. That's great stuff there.

Anyone watch MLB network last night and see Harold Baines talking about Rickey? His best story was when he won the stolen base crown on the last day of the season, getting 60 stolen bases. He said the next day he got a call out of nowhere from Rickey. Rickey - "Harold, 60 bases? You should be ashamed, I'd have 60 by the all-star break." And then he hung up. All Harold said was, that's Rickey.

Rickey Henderson should have been in on the first vote... EASILY... and I don't know why ONE writer WOULDN'T vote for him. Most ever stolen bases, most ever lead off homers, most ever runs, 3000 hits, world championship... wow... potentially the greatest lead off hitter EVER... easy selection...

Jim Rice was a great player in his day and a leader of all great hitting stats for 11 years of baseball's history. If I could find the stat that Wilbon used on PTI today, it definitely solidifies him as a HOFer. He deserved to be in. So does Bert Blyleven. So does Ron Santo.

I find it hard to believe Ricky's been retired the minimum amount of years required for eligibility. I thought I saw him running around the bases last season.

That's a stupid way of thinking. Period. There shouldn't be any sort of distinction other than YES or NO for any of the voters. The voters need to pull their heads out of their butts and figure some things out. The man scored more runs than any other player EVER.
