Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

You could have picked any other school, but you gave it away early. You shot your load all over the inside of your khakis instead of inside an actual female. But you’re used to that I suppose.
I have no idea what you are talking about.??????

Read the room. This ain't the place for your pro-KU nonsense. Not today.
It's the opposite actually. I just don't think NIL is making a big deal to transfers unless Iowa State is just not getting anything coordinated for their players at all. Mitch Lightfoot getting a few hundred bucks to hold a 1-800-GOT-JUNK bottle isn't exactly sport changing.

Agree. Other than telling Tyrese he needs to consider the "greater good", you can't hold it against him. He's taking advantage of the opportunity available to him and helping him and his family financially.

It just does highlight the sport is changing though. Understanding that some would reconsider their college basketball fandom.

i mean, you could make the argument he'd make 10x the NIL money if he balls out at ISU and gets drafted in 1-3 years.

but it's a do I want to do that and the risks it brings vs. guaranteed immediate payoff with a risk of less in the future.

I think @cyclonehomer said it best, we can replace his production from last season and even exceed it, but we cannot replace his upside. It sucks because we are losing what could have been.

Find a solid guard in the portal, add AJ Green, and a couple other bigs and we should be much better than last season, even with his departure.
Agree that I'm not terribly concerned about replacing his production. He was a very good freshman, and his game against LSU was phenomenal. His mental makeup was probably his best quality; though, which was surprisingly mature as a freshman but not something you can't find again.

Most disappointing is again what this means for the sport. With other transfers, you could point to them benefiting from a change of scenery (poor fit for the future, coach left, poor production, off-court issues). That's not true here. It's all money, and that's difficult to accept. (Again, not blaming Tyrese...but the sport is changing.) It looks like we're looking at annual mercenaries rather than "loyal sons forever true".

Look he’s probably leaving for the money. But if he was 100% happy, he might not have left.
Is it possible he didn't think the supporting cast was worthy of staying? Who knows. Hope not.
And another question ....hypothetically, if a young talented NBA prospect pg were to choose a school whose coach was highly known for preparing a point guard for the NBA, who would be the top 3 college coaches falling into that category?

Look he’s probably leaving for the money. But if he was 100% happy, he might not have left.
If you were happy where you were and were then offered an insane amount of money to do the same thing somewhere else you wouldn't leave? Now think if you were a poor 18 year old kid on top of it... Most people wouldn't think twice.

Agbaji averaged 26 MPG as a freshman and according to the KU website started the last 16 games.
After sitting out the first 14 games redshirting. If it wasn't for Azubuike's season ending injury, Agbaji would have played a total of 0 games his freshman season.

For sure. It's a calculated risk on his part. It's just hard to fault him for the decision if you're looking at it through his eyes. He's probably not taking a step down in terms of the program he goes to, and he's going to make more money.

He's not the type of guy who is difficult to coach. I would have never recommended that Royce leave for instance. He probably should have stayed with Fred one more year, just because Fred had a way of helping him manage his anxiety and maximized his potential. Maybe he could have better prepared him for life after college with one more year. Tyrese is a good, mature kid who again is easy to coach. Again, hard to fault him for leaving.

The discussion is NIL and I simply do not see the NIL deals at Kansas (mentioned only as that is the school I pay attention to) being the primary reason for someone to transfer there. Guys just aren't getting the type of deals there that non-KU people think they are.

It seems like the bigger issue would be that Otz just isn't running a very player-friendly, high scoring offensive system yet. Being PG on a team that struggles to score does not create the highlight package and stat collection that helps a guy get to the next level.
