Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

Jamie Pollard better throw a fit about tampering. If not, Iowa St will forever be just a feeder team

I’m going to wish TH the best. Just a young man that is trying to find his way and probably offered some money. Someone with his background has already seen much, and now wants to know what this is like. Don’t fault him for that.

Agree. It's not his fault the system has gone from slightly rigged to massively rigged. He is still the same kid he was when he was burying LSU in Milwaukee.

Who among us would turn down a 10x pay rise to change employers?

But the new way of doing business will kill the sport.

I'm going to go out on a whim and say that either George doesn't have a clue what went down and is lying, or he does know and is just trying to tread lightly and cover for Tyrese. Still needs to chill, imo. Fans (especially on Twitter) are already on the ledge, so doing this is just fanning the flames.
There is no reason for any fan to be on the ledge. If we pick up a decent guard in the portal, it’s a wash as far as I’m concerned.

Yeah, sorry but every player is a moron to not enter the portal every year and float their name.

Both to see what they can get, and in case their program pays a pro to play over them.

Even if you're the highest paid player at Duke or UNC and for some reason your body type doesn't make you an NBA draft lock...you should still enter portal because who knows.

It's not unlike fringe NBA draft picks declaring for the draft but not hiring an agent. There's no down side.
But you run the risk of the scholarship not being there whether that’s a coach retaliating or they already replaced you

Explain to me how this is going to lead to more concentrated talent on blue blood rosters? There's only so many roster spots. You really think blue bloods are going to get 15-20 elite guys to all want to be on the same team. Zero chance that happens.

I've watched Kansas recruit some duds out of HS, duds nearly every program in the nation wanted but duds none the less. Now they can just pay sophomores like Hunter they know are locks to be all conference players rather than taking risks on unproven high school players. Oh and he's short so he's likely to be a multi year player.

There is absolutely no way this won't hurt the vast majority of teams.

Go ahead protecting your feeble mind with this contrarian nonsense.

It’s an overreaction to say “this is the end of college athletics” because you’re basically assuming the way things are now are how they will always be. That’s distorted logic.

If all but 15 programs benefit from this, that will not sustain. There’s far too many other programs that will not let these competitive balance issues go unnoticed. We’re not the only school here that’s “screwed”

It is the end of college athletics. It truly is.

This is the Titanic and the lifeboats are full. We can rearrange the deck chairs and listen to the band, but this ship is going down.

Only possible saving grace is if Fox/ESPN start seeing viewership tank and then implement a more equitable system.

Otherwise, like Billy Joel said, "Oh we will all go down together!"

Really? I'd rather be a back up at school A and make $600,000 than start for school B for free tuition and room/board etc. I'd get that at school A anyway. If I'm good enough to play pro, I'll play pro. Might as well get rich in college.
Swen Nader did this. Long before it was legal.

That’s the million dollar question. But the NIL narrative just isn’t flying with me.
Oh, I still think its got to be mostly that. But if it wasn't, I'd rather take the disappointment and just let the damn truth be known. There would be less hand wringing or rule questioning if a simple 'why' gets told and we move on. And yes, I get no player owes fans anything...but it just seems like the world would operate a whole lot better if the facts just get stated.

What’s the minimum salary? I don’t think you should be surprised if an NIL coop for Duke offers a kid/family with no money 100k to fight for a spot vs going to ISU for 5k and whatever he can make on cameo and be the man, that the kid/family chooses Duke.

No intelligent people here are thinking ISU will be, can be or should be on that level. This is some invented nonsense contrarians are saying to make themselves feel better.

The intelligent people here are pointing out ISU will no longer even be able to remain at its historic level. Which is average among major conferences in hoops the past 25 years and historically barely competing in football.
There is no evidence of this at all because ISU's peers are in the same boat. If UNC and Kentucky will poach non-blueblood talent then they are going to take it from K-State and Oklahoma State and West Virginia just as often as they are going to take it from us. That means KU will have the best talent in the Big 12. Guess what? They pretty much always do anyway.

This feels even worse than the uncertainty around conference realignment. At least when we were done with that, we still fell like we were playing with the big boys.

Today confirmed that we are not, no matter what conference we arbitrarily end up in. NIL as it exists now has rendered on-court success moot. How are you supposed to build a team and celebrate success when, at the end of the day, it probably won't mean anything for long-term growth?

It could accelerate the country not caring about college sports if the mega conference is a Big Ten/SEC merger vs 30 programs across the country leaving their leagues to join each other.

Half the teams in Big Ten/SEC cannot pay pros the way the top teams can even if they get a boost from bigger TV/Streaming payouts. You could be talking about a dozen major programs in football, not 30, if they do it in the worst way.
