People need to realize, it looks like TJ is going all in on the no-middle defense like Texas Tech. Not going to recruit a 40% shooter who is garbage at D. Now if they can get a 40% shooter who is also great at D, thats the holy grail.
And defense isn't just how good you are 1on1. Its knowing the principles of the defense, where you are supposed to be and when, rotations, etc. I think Tre Jackson was just fine if not above average 1on1, but the overall is what held him back.
Look at Tech this year. Bryson Williams was over 40%, but in 2 years prior, it was 32% (so people can improve late). Terrence Shannon has gone from 26% to 35% to 38%. The other four players who shot a lot of 3's were 30, 31, 31, 34.
Baylor's this year had 2 great 3 point shooters and 4 guys right around 30%.
Neither of those teams sacrifice defense for shooters. Iowa State shouldn't either.
