Fran's done a very good job of staying out of the bottom of the Big 10 and continuously making the NCAA Tournament. For lots of programs that's all you can ask for. Make the tournament and then see what happens (ala ISU this year). The problem is that Fran has been at Iowa for so long and simply making the tournament hasn't done anything other than keep his job. Fans can't do much outside of keep hoping because Fran will not get fired with those results.

Disagree with this one. Winning a the regular season doesn't garner a trophy or banner in the arena. It's nice to tout and boast about though. I think it's advantageous for a school focus on things that show how successful you are, so things like trophy's and banners. I'd probably rank regular season conference champ at #6 and move everything up.

Cool. They are saying ISU is 4x better recently. We have conference tourney trophies laying around all over the place. You can’t spit without hitting a conference tournament trophy in Ames.

There’s no good argument, during Fran’s 12 years ISU just has a boatload more success under 3 coaches.

I think you are spot on (although one could argue ISU was unlucky that Leath made us pass over TJ when Prohm was hired).

I think it is worse than Fran doing good enough - he seems to have a nugget every year that makes him safe. If he had not won the B1G tourney this year, had POY in Garza last year, etc.

My sense is your fanbase may ready to move on but instead Barta will likely succumb to Fran's negotiating and let him turn the Tourney title into a fat extension.

Off topic, but I still believe TJ cutting his teeth at SDSU and UNLV made him much more prepared to come back to take his retirement job.

He got to make all of his mistakes without cyclone “fans” bearing down on him.

I don't disagree that winning the regular season championship is easy. I personally think its a better accomplishment that winning the conference tourney. However, from my view, the way things are set up and how sports media reports, regular season championships don't get the attention that conference tourney, sweet 16 and + do.

Agree...it could do nothing but help him prepare to land the ISU job and be a better coach (unless he failed miserably at SDSU, but then that would have justified not hiring him at ISU).

It was a big deal in 00 when we had all 4 big 12 basketball trophies in one year. I have a picture next to them and another from the same celebration day with LE and my roommates.

I mean the elite 8 was as good or better, but the utter domination and destruction of KU and rest of big 12 in both regular season and tournament was a tangible awesome thing.

Yes, that is true, but you also have more disastrous seasons too. I would take your highs even with your lows over Iowa's average results though.

Baylor had to start with new pieces and was never at full strength and didn't get to play Nebraska or Northwestern or Penn State or Maryland or Minnesota.
The tournament is a crap shoot but tendencies can also show out when it matters.

This is incorrect. You get a trophy and banner for regular season conference champs. Id rank that accomplishment either #3 or #4 with elite 8 but better than sweet 16.

ISU has two 20 loss seasons, Iowa has one and a 19 loss.

You gotta get creative with lineups and play them together more. In today’s game teams play 3 or 4 long wing players all the time.

FFS if they were quadruplets I’d start all four with toussaint or Jobo at point and play them all 35 minutes.

Keegan was top 10 in a lot of big ten stats as a freshman only getting 18 minutes a game. He could have been all big ten last year if it hadn’t been about getting Fran’s kids in to just drop the ball to Garza.

They both had their moments for sure. PMac way outplayed Kris in the Richmond game. I thought that might have been Kris' worst game of the year.

I wish I could find my photo of all four trophies from 00. It was outside in front of Hilton they had them all on display because it was a nice day, then you could go inside to meet players and coaches. I do have my pic with LE and my buddies from that day still.
