Coaching HS football near the beach sounds like a nice retirement job

HS FB would be way better than CFB for a semi retirement gig. You would only work full time (and probably less than that) for August through November. You get December through July to do what? Watch the weight room for one hour a day? Zero recruiting to worry about. And Rhoads doesn’t even have the public facing, meet the parents duties of a head coach. He can just run a defense and try to help some 17 year olds.

Public University coaches get IPERS correct? I know Rhoads wouldn’t be vested but Ferentz is…wonder what he would pull in a month in retirement?

Even if he’s more of just a “rah rah” guy that gives a few weekly tidbits on the teams film, that seems like a pretty big win for a high school program.

I remember when Sam Wyche (Bengals coach back in the day) coached high school ball. Some guys just want to coach and leave it at that.

A Very Nice Looking Young Man..I WISH HIM THE BEST THAT LIFE HAS TO OFFER!!

All defense was pushed out the door at OSU and CPR just happen to be one of them. This is great example of these football "blue bloods" and their turn and burn approach with coaches. I think this is why MC knows how valuable it is to have a AD that is patient and supportive.

You beat me to it. Between his assistant job from 95-99 under Mac and the years he was head coach he has a total of 10 years at ISU and you need 7 to be vested in IPERS
I don't know if he got a lump sum payout or if we paid over a few years, so that could potentially add some also. Figure his average at 1.5MM and 20% of that at retirement is 300k/year.

I have no idea what he chose to do, but if I was advising any coach, I would have them opt out of any defined benefit plan and instead contribute to whatever defined contribution plans (403b, 457, etc) were available. It’s such a transient life, and the odds of staying somewhere long enough to be vested are terrible.

Sounds like a great way for someone who has made millions to spend some time relaxing while still doing what they love. Best of luck to him.

This school produce D1 talent? Would be nice to have a connection.
