We’ve had a guy that comes out and clears our drive using a 2 stage and does a great job. Only costs $35 per and only need him 3-4 times per year. Sure beats storage, maintenance, etc. only downside is he’s just getting here 36 hrs after a huge snowfall but is usually inside 24 hrs.
Damn, avoiding that was lesson #1 in the Shoveling 101 class my dad taught me 60 years ago. Still has never happened to me.
When we lived in Omaha, the weather guy would get very excited when it was severe weather time. We would always say “Man, this is going to be bad, Bills got his weather boner on full display.”
Single stage Toro and a two-stage MTD that I got off swap sites for nothing! $3 primer bulb and a new spark plug for the Toro. The MTD I found that 6” pulley was mounted incorrectly. Fixed that added a fuel shut off valve and new carburetor for $20. Looks brand new!
Said neighbor is now shoveling out the curb gutter! The dude is insane!
I went out and cleared the ends of 5 driveways last night after the plow went by. City plows throwing it all the way back on the sidewalks!

YES! I mentioned this in the thread about the storms in December. You know how bad it was based on the sleeves. If they were all the way up, it was full on weather boner for Bill. You knew it was going to be bad!

Hr meant no Shear pins. Shear pins are located on each side of the gearbox to run the beaters. You ABSOLUTELY WANT THESE. Otherwise if you catch an ice chunk, rock, frozen dirt into the beaters, you will probably shred the gearbox. If you have them, it break the bolt and you run to the hardware store and get another. (Best to spend the 2-3 bucks and have 1-2 on hand.

I've had two-stage snowblowers for maybe twelve or fourteen years. In all that time I think I've broken and changed one shear pin. And I get a ton of wet, heavy stuff and ice the end of the drive.
It would be nice not to have to deal with that, but at least for me it's been a virtual non-factor.
I could never do that until I’m physically beyond capable. I love shoveling and snow blowing.
