Didn't see this posted anywhere, but some interesting nuggets in here regarding the Cy-Hawk future & the "Alliance".

Looks like the future of the series after 2025 will be in the hands of the Hawks. The Alliance will leave room for it, but the Hawks will get to decide if they deem it worthy of playing or not. Hawks would then decide if they want only 1 "alliance" game or two. I'm guessing to keep 7 home games, they'd have to stick with just one Alliance game if they keep Cy-Hawk.

Finally, I was trying to think about what "rivalry series with the B12 and SEC" fall into this category. The author calls out: GA-GA Tech, Florida-FSU, Clemson-S. Carolina, and Louisville-KY. I'm thinking Cy-Hawk is the only existing "rivalry series" that the B12 has with the Pac12/ACC/B10???

Previously scheduled games and rivalry series with the Big 12 and SEC will be preserved. Teams with such games would be required to play only one Alliance game a year. For example, because it plays Georgia each season, Georgia Tech would have one Alliance game each season. If it wanted, it could schedule two, giving the Yellowjackets three nonconference games against Power 5 programs—something normally avoided.

“It would be up to the school,” says Kliavkoff.

-I think you are correct that Cy-Hawk is the only existing ongoing rivalry game between B12 & Alliance conferences. WV-Pitt should play their game annually, IMO. If they did, that would be the only other major one.
-Games like OU-NU, CU-KSU, TTU-UA could be considered but they aren't currently often enough or heated enough to qualify as a rivalry in my book.
-Someone posted an article the other day saying that TTU is looking to keep an annual game against Texas on the schedule after they move to the SEC. That wouldn't be a rivalry game against an Alliance school but would be an annual cross conference rivalry game. Same would apply if OSU and OU decide to continue an annual game after OU moves to the SEC. Heck, maybe KU and MU decide to renew their rivalry. But I doubt that.

after winning ten in a row they may be bored with the series.

IMO, if the SEC doesn't expand to 9 conference games I think the other conferences drop down to 8 too - that would potentially give them room to add an alliance game and another P5 noncon.

We'll see though, I'm still skeptical of how soon these alliance games will happen if ever.

The Alliance shouldn’t be an excuse for Iowa to end the Cy-Hawk. Their complaints all along have been “we want to play other P5 non-con opponents” and “we need 7 home games.” If the B1G goes to 8 conference games to accommodate the Alliance, Iowa will be in a position to play B1G games + Cy-Hawk + one ACC/Pac-12 team + 2 buy games every year. They will get both of the things they want: new P5 opponents from the ACC and Pac-12 (one per season) while keeping 7 home games. They can play the ACC/Pac-12 team on the road when the Cy-Hawk is in Iowa City and vice versa.

Long story short, if Iowa backs out now, it is not because of the Alliance. If Iowa doesn’t want to play us, whatever, the Big 12 should link up with the SEC.

I still think if either AD threatens to end the series, there will be pressure on the legislature to step in and make it continue.

I would disagree with that. The game loses any luster when one team is perceived to be in a lesser position.

I think Iowa will have their out, if pollard, or whomever is the ad agrees to any change in the current home and home, that would be a terrible move. Plus it would show where this new and exciting big 12 will be slotted.

Not sure about that. The series was revived in the late 70s by the legislature when Iowa's program was in the lesser position.

There would be a TON of bad press in this state should either side decide to end it. Politics would eventually get involved.

I hate the Cy-Hawk game even when we win. It is isn't worth the stress and harassing you get before the game (and after if ISU loses). The issue might be more magnified living in eastern IA, but it is what I experience on a personal level. In the years ISU wins, it is almost less a feeling of happiness that we won, as opposed to relief I don't have to deal with the jabber-hoks for a few months.

The stress and harassing happens at the top to. I say keep the games going,we cant be like scott frost and back out of a game because the other team is better.

Been saying this for years ..the loud mouth idiot Iowa fans are the absolute worst ..even bullying kids who wear clone gear. I've seen it in northeast Iowa. What makes it unbearable now ..is that we can't beat them even in a game of checkers..our teams play with a huge mental block.. Our 6-1 volley ball team team just got destroyed by a 1-6 Iowa team. If Pollard/coaches can't turn this around..then it's time to drop the series.

If Iowa were in charge, they'd keep the series if they keep winning. If ISU rattles off wins in FB and BB you can bet Iowa will play the 'lose-lose' card and want to get out.
