Pellet Grills

I have a Traeger pro 22 and have had a similar issue but not totally the same. The problem I have had with mine is that it chokes itself out. It has happened when I adjust temperatures. It seems to over feed itself and actually shuts off the grill. I have to unplug it to restart, fire it back up but when I do it smokes like crazy and almost has a "pit" fire. It has a fire for a couple minutes and then finally goes out and it runs fine after that. My best guess is for some reason when the temp is adjusted it over feeds itself kills the whole grill.

Have no idea what is going on so I found a good deal on a year old GMG that has wifi and a few other accessories. Can't wait to try it out!
This is exactly what I think is happening. However, I smoked a pork butt today for 14 hours. Lost the flame literally as the IT hit 202 degrees so it was ok. Didn’t adjust the flame 5 hours before it went out on me.

Mine happened a few times last year but happened to me a month or so ago when I was smoking a brisket. Smoked it over night, pulled it off at 7 am to wrap it in paper and turn the heat up. Did all that, went out to check on it 45 minutes later and thats when I noticed it was shut off. That was the last straw, I had to go to a Green Mountain.

Pit Boss is built the way Tragers used to be. Get the PID controller for sure not sure if they have wifi or blue tooth but I would look for that too. You can always upgrade controller later. I believe they are all basically compatible.

I bought a Recteq when I moved into the new place and I love it. So simple to use and everything I've cooked so far has been great. We haven't had a LOT of time for many cooks as we are trying to get settled as well as prep for our upcoming wedding. However we've done pulled pork, smoked/grilled chicken, and smoked salmon in the last month. All were great but the fiancé LOVED the smoked salmon. Considering she buys the stuff from the store and how god awful expensive it is, I'm happy we can make it much cheaper at home.

I'm that guy that says, "if I'm going to fire the smoker up, why not utilize all the space?" I mean you are going to use about the same amount of pellets.

I can usually get them done in around 14-15 hours. My Thermoworks Thermo Pen has really been a game changer for me in terms of getting the internal temps on the money!!

The Pitboss I ended up with does have the PID controller and WiFi/Bluetooth. It seems like a steal of a grill and Lowe’s has a great price even compared to the Pitboss grills elsewhere.

Got a pit boss last year and really like it. The sliding sear plate is great. Didn’t realize some Traegers don’t have that and id really miss not being able to expose the flame for searing steaks.

I can tell some temp inconsistencies from left to right in it though.

Also, wish I waited a year. The new pit boss models that Lowe’s have look awesome.

I know the new Pit Boss models had some pretty significant temp control issues but I think they pushed out an update to fix that. That was enough to spook me though and I ended up getting a Traeger 34 series instead and I couldn't be happier with it.

Too much ash in the bottom will cause this to happen too.

Had a Daniel Boone for a few years & didn't like it very much. The grill had a bad habit of coating my food with a black residue - working with their customer service team was not very helpful & even after disassembling & deep cleaning the entire thing multiple times (per their instruction) it still did it. I've heard great things from almost everybody else who has had one though, so I'm sure mine was just a lemon.

My wife bought me a Traeger for my birthday last year - it's incredible. Get the WiFi enabled version & it's practically impossible to mess something up. Food is consistently fantastic.
