Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

If everyone goes to 16 then that’s 64.

Currently 65 power 5 conference teams..

We would be "in" before almost every single remaining Big 12 school at this point. Between academics, facilities, and current athletic profile. Only KU might have a better chance. Media footprint doesn't mean **** any more.

Your entire argument is SEC. There has to be a substantive argument. Sticking with the NCAA the Big 12 is a significantly better option for both schools. They get to dominate athletically and politically. They make just as much money in the Big 12. They don’t lose bargaining power if stuff blows up.
The NCAA is dying. JFC can't you see that?

How I imagine conference realignment talk to be like. " Coulda been done better, next time we'll do it right and go full regalleon"

great scene. Almost didn't happen because Jonah couldn't make it, but Quinten changed the dates of filming to make sure he could make it.

"Well nobody can see"
"SO?"
"So, it'd be nice to see"
make's me chuckle every time because of the delivery

IMO, being an independent makes more sense for Texas than being in a conference.

Especially to them! They could schedule half their games within the state of Texas...play some big name opponents in home-homes...some at a neutral site. It would work for them in football! Not sure what they would do in basketball? Would the Big 12 let them remains for other sports?

The future, IMO, is the Big 10 and SEC both going to 16 and splitting away from the NCAA.

The bowl games and basketball tournament they could sell to the networks would be astounding in the money they'd make.

Play your 12 regular season games against only teams in your league and then matchup 1v1, 2v2, all the way down and give FOX (Big 10) and ESPN (SEC) great inventory while simultaneously cutting the legs out from Turner when you run your own 32 team basketball tournament on your own networks.

This also forces Notre Dame into the Big Ten and the war for that 16th spot will be nuts....

NIL killed the NCAA, they just don't know it yet. FOX and ESPN are 3 years away from completely running college sports without the perception that they're just partners of the leagues and the NCAA.

SEC got their first taste of power last summer when they basically told the NCAA to "**** off, we're playing football" after the BIG canceled their season thinking every other conference would follow suit. Now they're trying to flex.

Agree, unless we somehow could get into the B1G and that probably isn't likely.
It won’t. There’s a lot going against that and really geographically is the only thing sort of for it.

but why even involve fox and espn at that point? what do you need from them? start your own network. start your own streaming service. cut out the networks. thats what i think this is all about. sending a message to the networks to pony up more cash or we'll just split from everyone and do our own thing.

We may think we aren't the old Iowa State, but it doesn't matter what we think. Recruiting was awful when we weren't sure what conference we were going to be in. Campbell and staff are great recruiters, but don't think that **** won't hurt us. Not to mention that we have a coach that might not want to stay if we go down a conference.

Like I said before, there's no reason to panic over this. BUT there's also no reason to act like this wouldn't really **** us over if it happened.
I mean we just aren’t the same Iowa state we once were. It’s a dumb argument to even think we’re remotely close to where we were in 2010.

And sure we definitely agree that if we drop down to G5 level that’d change everything, but my point was that I don’t think that’d happen. I think we’d land on our feet.

Am I the only one that thinks in 25 years conferences won't be a thing any more? With the TV rights going the way of the Internet and how easy it is to Travel. It seems like teams can just schedule teams every year that make them the most money.
I predict in the next 10 years the Power 5 schools break away from the NCAA and form some sort of college football federation. I think they'll be more like regional divisions as opposed to the current conference look.

*uck Texas. What a bunch of arrogant ********. They like the drama. I hope we embarrass them this fall.

Really don’t see why either would leave the conference where you are top dog, and now with the potential expanded playoff almost a guaranteed spot in the playoff every year. The money difference isn’t that much. Though if realignment does happen again, ISU is in a 100000x better position than last time.
KSU and OSU were pretty good programs the last time around and their only hope was to be dragged in to some conference as a package with their sister school in state. Not sure being a good team matters much if any of this wild speculation is true. At least adding cable TV markets doesnt matter like it did last time. What a mistake Rutgers was.

How so? They were winning in the SEC with players they recruited for the Big 12. Doesn't seem to me like they needed to change anything. They started losing when a new coach came in who wasn't nearly as good of a recruiter. If anything joining the SEC opened up more Southern states for them to recruit from.
Missouri left for one reason, when they saw what was happening in the talks between the PAC 12 and OU and UT they were going to be one of the schools left out. So they started talking to the Big 10, but then Nebraska started thinking it was a great time for them to get out under the shadow of UT so they took that slot.
The SEC took aTm, needed another school and Mizzu was a border state so they got the invite. Are they better off, moneywise yes, but they also gave up any chance of ever winning a football championship forever.

They've got the infrastructure. Carriage deals are already in place and they both have a massive streaming presence ready to go. Plus, they're both backed by unworldly money and would take 100% of the risk.

I think we’re looking a little too deeply into historical factors and not enough into future factors.

We’ve put ourselves in a great spot in terms of our facilities, leadership, academics. We have viable factors to join another conference now. I can name several programs that are sh*t shows right now. This isn’t the same program from 2011.

If the SEC expands to 16, these other conferences will not sit on their hands and add no one. They will be aggressive to acquire anyone possible.

I don’t know where we land for sure, but this assumption that we’re f***ed seems a little premature.

In before the thread hits 70 pages in the next hour (or day).

Don't buy it. Not saying they didn't inquire, but speculation (either them or somebody else) saying so and so is moving to SEC happens regularly now. Happened last year as well.

TX and to some extent OU, call the shots in the Big 12, one of them usually gets to the College playoff (that will be changing fairly soon). They don't want to upset the apple cart.

It is disconcerting however, the amount of apparent disloyalty to a conference (your conference) some have. I don't buy that either necessarily. It's some kind of ploy to improve the Big 12. Stay tuned .

I think ESPN and Fox will try. Maybe they'll succeed. But IMO college football dies with 32 teams. It's too much about the names on the front of the jerseys and the small schools are still important in that. Youll cash the checks for a time, but every year it'll mean less and less as you lose the built in fanbases of alumni. Eventually, it'll just be the NBA DL with no fan loyalty.
