New Uniforms Revealed

What are we even arguing about? Teams go through trends with their styles, currently we are using black in our uniforms, I'm sure it won't be like that forever. I think they realized after last year that they used black too much. It seems to me that a lot of the promotional pics on Twitter that most of the time the players are wearing the cardinals home jerseys. And if they wear black just the same it will be okay.

Not if you look at how the term Cyclone was used in history, how we got our name. Cyclones, is/was a term for tornados especially in rural central US.

And trying to say we got our name from a tropical storm in the Indian Ocean instead of a slang term used for Tornados in Rural Midwest in the early 20th century, makes NO sense.
Technically Buffaloes is also a misuse of the term that caught on during the same time. By that logic, Colorado should be the Bison because their nickname is more appropriate for African water buffaloes.

…or schedule a game at Minnesota for 10/7/23…
I asked Jamie about that a while back. A couple of years ago, iirc. He replied that we wouldn’t want to schedule another “tough” non conference game in addition to Iowa, and risk getting Matt Campbell upset so that he leaves.

It was a nice, long, thoughtful e-mail. And I stared at it entirely baffled.

Would I prefer we maybe not do the alt uniform thing every other game? Sure, but at the end of the day I don't think it's the huge deal the purists are making it out to be.
Oregon, who i think everyone would agree really pioneered the "alt uni," would wear a different uniform combo for every game. And they often included colors like silver/chrome and orange which aren't school colors and aren't the same as a neutral or "classic" all black.

I love our school colors, but let the players have fun.

Who tried to say we got our name from a storm
In the Indian Ocean? That’s what makes no sense. Read what’s actually there.

The OP was talking about “what is”, and tried to justify colors for “accuracy”. And “what iswould be the simple fact that in current scientific terms (considering ISU has a Department of Geological and Atmospheric Science), a cyclone is a water based phenomenon in a different hemisphere.

Please don’t try to layer different meanings over what I said. Plus, apparently the sarcasm flew right past you.

And BTW, when I was a student, we still had the original Cy. Note that I said nothing about going back to him, and here:

Well what you said is "Cyclones are formed over the South Pacific and Indian Ocean." And I said not in the context of how we got our name/identity. Our name came from using cyclones as a synonymous term for tornados.

Our mascot is a completely different story.

But do I think we should change our colors to what the OP said, no that is dumb.

I do think we could use our original colors of silver, gold and black, as throwbacks or special alts on occasion though as Kagavi has designed. But man would the TOEs heads explode!!! LOL

I don't believe I"ve seen either of the pissing match combatants in the cave. Plenty of arseholes outside the cave.

As an ISU alum, I've never cared for the red/yellow - let's leave that for USC - and would like to see the 'clones dump that and permanently adopt the colors you'd encounter as an EF5 tornado bears down across an Iowa dirt field - Iowa topsoil black, stormcloud grey, cumulonimbus white for trim. Cyclone is a powerful team name - let's go all in with it and dump Cy. Fire up the storm siren!

Hahaha this is a good application to be Matt Campbell's "spin doctor".

"Now you see, it's not that HCMC does not like the traditional ISU colors, but in his wisdom and perceptive insight, he sees that with black and white uniforms we can be even more forever truly Cyclones..."

Can you imagine being the Minnesota AD receiving that phone call...

"Hey, we'd like to schedule a game with you to commemorate the anniversary of your football program being so racist that you murdered our first African American player. What do you say?"
I don’t get how people come up with this. I’ve seen it before.

It would be a simple, “How would you like to schedule a game, so that we can all show how far we’ve come since then?”

Matter of fact, the Minnesota AD couldn’t say no to that.
