Its a step up from Boise. He's already proved he can play with the big boys beating Oklahoma a few years back in the fiesta bowl. He comes here for 4 years, turns the program around (a hopeful thought) and scores a bigger job somewhere else. Coaching is full of stepping stones.

Except its really an intermediate step that he doesn't need and is potentially very risky. His success will make him a candidate for bigger jobs than ISU. See: Urban Meyer.

I honestly don't think it matters where ex-coaches come from. To me, that is not a real valid way to assess them. IMO all the leagues are way too different now to compare coaches from the 80's
